OVERHAUL

HINT: A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart.

1. SHIPMENT MODE SETTING
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

3. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSY LH
4. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH
5. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY
6. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSY
7. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH REAR
8. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER CENTER
10. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY
11. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSY
12. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CARPET
13. REMOVE NO. 3 CONSOLE BOX
14. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSY





15. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSY
a. Move the shift lever to N position.
b. Remove the nut and disconnect the shifting rod from the connecting rod swivel.





16. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT ASSY
a. Disconnect the 4 connectors.
b. Remove the 2 wire harness clamps from the floor shift assy.
c. Remove the 4 bolts and floor shift.





17. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY
a. Twist the knob counterclockwise and pull it upward to remove it.

18. REMOVE SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR





a. Using needle-nose pliers, detach the 2 claws and remove the shift position indicator knob, coin box lock and coin box lock compression ring.

NOTICE: Perform this procedure carefully as there is a possibility that the coin box compression ring may fly off.





b. Release the 8 claws, and remove the position indicator plate.





c. Release the 6 claws with a screwdriver and remove the position indicator housing from floor shift position indicator housing.





19. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
a. Remove the shift lock release button from the shift position indicator.





20. REMOVE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SWITCH
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the VSC OFF switch from the shift position indicator.





21. REMOVE PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSY NO. 1
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the pattern select switch from the shift position indicator.





22. REMOVE RETURN SPRING DAMPER
a. Remove the screw and return spring damper.





23. REMOVE NO. 1 COIN BOX PANEL
a. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, remove the NO. 1 shift lever gear.
b. Using needle-nose pliers, pull out the left and right straight pins.

NOTICE: As the spring may fly out when pulling out the straight pins, hold down the panel and spring while pulling out the straight pins.

c. Remove the NO. 1 coin box panel and coin box panel torsion spring.





24. REMOVE COIN BOX PANEL STRAIGHT PIN
a. Remove the coin box panel straight pin.





25. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LAMP BULB
a. Rotate the indicator light wire counterclockwise, align the key part and remove the wire.
b. Remove the position indicator light bulb from the indicator light wire.

26. REMOVE INDICATOR LAMP WIRE SUB-ASSY





a. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, release the connector housing retainer of the transmission control switch.





b. Insert SST until it contacts the attachment side or the tip of SST, as shown in the illustration of the connector. Then, hold the wiring and pull out the contact.

NOTICE:
^ When reusing a removed contact, check that the contact does not have any abnormalities. Replace the contact if it abnormal.
^ Do not use the SST to raise or pry the connector and housing retainer.
^ Do not use SST if its tip is bent more than 10°.

HINT: The lance of the contact releases when SST is inserted.

27. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSY





a. Using a screwdriver, lightly pry the position indicator housing lower and remove it.





HINT: The claw locations are shown in the illustration.





b. Remove the shift lever nut and lock pin from the floor shift assembly.
c. Remove the shift lever nut and lock pin from the floor shift assembly.

NOTICE: First remove the shift lever nut and lock pin, then disengage the 2 claws.





d. Remove the 2 screws and the shift lock control ECU.





28. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
a. Remove the transmission control switch from the shift lever guide housing.





29. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
a. Install the transmission control switch to the shift lever guide housing.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.

30. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSY





a. Apply MP grease to the hatched area of the shift lever guide housing as indicated in the illustration.





b. Install the shift lock control ECU with the 2 screws.





c. Install the shift lever guide housing to the floor shift assembly.

NOTICE: When installing the shift lever guide housing, first attach the claw. Then install the shift lever nut and lock pin.

d. Install the floor shift assembly with the shift lever lock pin and a new shift lever nut.





e. Attach the claw and install the position indicator housing lower.

31. INSTALL INDICATOR LAMP WIRE SUB-ASSY





a. Securely connect the 2 terminals of the indicator light wire 2 harnesses to the transmission control switch connector.





b. Fix the stopper of the connector in place.





32. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR LAMP BULB
a. Install the position indicator bulb to the indicator light wire.
b. Align the indicator light wire with the key part of the position indicator guide housing, and install the wire. Then rotate the wire clockwise until it locks.

NOTICE: Securely install the indicator light wire to the position indicator guide housing.





33. INSTALL COIN BOX PANEL STRAIGHT PIN
a. Install the coin box panel straight pin.





34. INSTALL NO. 1 COIN BOX PANEL
a. Install the NO. 1 coin box panel and coin box panel torsion spring.
b. Install the coin box panel straight pin and NO. 1 shift lever gear.





35. INSTALL RETURN SPRING DAMPER
a. Install the screw with the return spring damper.





36. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
a. Install the shift lock release button to the shift position indicator.





37. INSTALL NO. 1 PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSEMBLY
a. Install the pattern select switch to the shift position indicator.





38. INSTALL TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH
a. Install the traction control switch to the shift position indicator.

39. INSTALL SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR





a. Attach the 6 claws and remove the shift position indicator housing to the floor shift position indicator housing.

NOTICE: Securely engage the claws.





b. Attach the 8 claws and remove the position indicator housing plate.

NOTICE: Securely engage the claws.





c. Attach the claws shown in the illustration, and install the shift indicator knob, coin box lock and coin box compression spring.

NOTICE: Securely engage the claws.





40. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY
a. Install the floor shift lever knob to the shift lever.





41. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT ASSY
a. Install the floor shift assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.)
b. Install the 2 wire harness clamps to the floor shift assembly.
c. Connect the 4 connectors.

NOTICE: Do not pinch the wire harness.





42. INSTALL NO. 1 FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSY
a. Temporarily install the shifting rod sub-assembly to the connecting rod swivel with the nut.

HINT: The nut will be tightened to a torque specification during the shift lever position adjustment procedure.

47. INSTALL NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY
48. INSTALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER CENTER
49. INSTALL CONSOLE PANEL UPPER
50. INSTALL CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH REAR
51. INSTALL AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSY
52. INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY
53. INSTALL FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH
54. INSTALL DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY LH
55. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
56. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
57. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
58. PERFORM INITIALIZATION

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

ADJUSTMENT
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
a. When shifting from P to R with the ignition switch ON and the brake pedal depressed, make sure that the shifting lever moves smoothly and correctly into position.
b. Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward after shifting from N to D, and moves rearward after shifting to R.
If the results are not as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch and check the shift lever.

2. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION





a. Remove the nut and disconnect the shifting rod.





b. Turn the control shaft lever of the neutral start switch counterclockwise until it stops, and turn it clockwise 2 notches to set it to the N position.
c. Move the shift lever to the N position and tighten the nut while lightly pushing the lever toward the R position.
Torque: 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Do not push the shift lever too hard.

d. After adjustment, check that the shift lever moves smoothly and the shift lever and gear operate correctly.

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION





e. Measure resistance between each terminal of shift lock control unit assy when the shift lever is moved to each position.

Standard:





INSPECTION





1. INSPECT PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSY NO. 1
a. Disconnect the pattern select switch assembly No. 1 connector.
b. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table.
SST 0982-00030, 09083-00150

Standard:





c. Connect the battery's positive(+) terminal to terminal 2 (ILL+) and the battery's negative(-) terminal to terminal 4 (ILL-).
Then check the illumination of the switch.
Standard: Turn on the illumination.
