On-Vehicle Inspection
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION1. CHECK SPEEDOMETER
a. Check the operation.
1. Using a speedometer tester, check the speedometer for the allowable indication error and proper operation of the odometer.
NOTE: Worn, underinflated or overinflated tires will increases the error margin of the speedometer.
2. Check the deflection width of the speedometer indicator.
Reference: Allowable range 0.5 km/h (0.3 mph)
If the result is not as specified, the speedometer may have a malfunction.
2. CHECK OUTPUT SIGNAL OF VEHICLE SPEED
a. Check the output signal waveform.
1. Remove the combination meter, but do not disconnect the connector.
2. Using an oscilloscope, check signal waveform of the combination meter.
OK: As shown in the illustration
HINT: As vehicle speed increases, the wavelength shortens. If the result is not as specified, the speedometer may have a malfunction.
3. CHECK TACHOMETER
a. Check the operation
1. Connect a tune-up test tachometer, and start the engine.
NOTE:
- Do not reverse the connections of the tachometer. This will damage its transistors and diodes.
- When removing or installing the tachometer, be careful not to drop or strike it.
2. Compare the test tachometer values with the vehicle tachometer values.
DC 13.5 V, at 25 degrees C (77 degrees F)
4. CHECK FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE
a. Disconnect the F15 sender gauge connector.
b. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.
OK: Fuel receiver gauge indicates E
c. Connect terminals 2 and 3 on the wire harness side connector.
d. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.
OK: Fuel receiver gauge indicates F
5. CHECK FUEL LEVEL WARNING LAMP
a. Disconnect the F15 sender gauge connector.
b. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check the fuel receiver gauge position and fuel level warning lamp.
OK: Fuel level receiver gauge indicates E and fuel level warning lamp illuminates.
6. CHECK ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE RECEIVER GAUGE
a. Disconnect the C8 meter connector.
b. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check the position of the engine coolant temperature receiver gauge.
OK: Engine coolant temperature receiver gauge indicates C
c. Connect terminal 2 on the wire harness side connector to the body ground.
d. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check the position of the engine coolant temperature receiver gauge needle.
OK: Engine coolant temperature receiver gauge indicates H
7. CHECK LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING LAMP
a. Disconnect the O2 switch connector.
b. Connect the terminal O2-1 of wire harness side connector to the body ground. c. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check the low oil pressure warning lamp.
