Pneumatic Rear LH W/Shock Absorber Cylinder Assembly, Replacement


















PNEUMATIC REAR LH W/SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
REPLACEMENT

HINT:
- Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
- The procedures listed are for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY
2. REMOVE REAR SEATBACK ASSEMBLY
3. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH
4. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH
5. REMOVE REAR DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH
6. REMOVE REAR DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH
7. REMOVE REAR SEAT SIDE COVER RH
8. REMOVE REAR SEAT SIDE COVER LH
9. REMOVE ROOF SIDE GARNISH INNER RH
10. REMOVE ROOF SIDE GARNISH INNER LH
11. REMOVE CENTER STOP LAMP ASSEMBLY
12. REMOVE PACKAGE TRAY TRIM PANEL ASSEMBLY
13. REMOVE REAR WHEEL





14. REMOVE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER CAP LH
a. Remove the 3 nuts and rear shock absorber cap LH.





15. REMOVE ABSORBER CONTROL ACTUATOR
a. Turn the absorber control actuator counter clockwise 40° and remove it.
16. REMOVE PNEUMATIC REAR LH W/SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY





a. Support the rear axle carrier with a jack using a wood block to avoid damage.
b. Remove the rear tire house cover.
c. Disconnect the connector No. 1.
d. Using SST, disconnect the air tube.
SST 09730-00010





e. Remove the pneumatic rear LH w/ shock absorber cylinder assembly upper side 3 nuts.





f. Remove the pneumatic rear LH w/ shock absorber cylinder assembly lower side nut.
g. Let it down slowly to remove the pneumatic rear LH w/ shock absorber cylinder assembly.
17. REMOVE O-RING
a. Remove the connector No.2.
b. Remove the 2 O-rings.
18. INSPECT PNEUMATIC REAR LH W/SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY





a. Inspect pneumatic cylinder assembly operation.
1. Compress and expand the pneumatic rear LH w/ shock absorber cylinder assembly 4 times or more.
2. Check that there is no abnormal resistance or unusual operation sounds.
If there is any abnormality, replace the pneumatic rear LH w/shock absorber cylinder assembly with a new one.

NOTICE: When disposing of the pneumatic rear LH w/shock absorber cylinder assembly, see DISPOSAL.





b. Check that there is difference in the damping force when the rods are positioned as shown.
19. INSTALL O-RING
a. Install the 2 O-rings.
b. Install the connector No.2.
20. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN PNEUMATIC REAR LH W/SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY





a. Install the pneumatic rear LH w/ shock absorber cylinder assembly lower side nut.
b. Jack up the rear axle carrier slowly using a wood block to avoid damage.





c. Install the pneumatic rear LH w/ shock absorber cylinder assembly upper side 3 nuts.
Torque: 64 Nm (650 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.)
d. Connect the air tube to the pneumatic rear LH w/ shock absorber cylinder assembly.
e. Connect the connector No. 1.
21. INSTALL ABSORBER CONTROL ACTUATOR





a. Check that the control rod position as shown.





b. Install the absorber control actuator to the pneumatic rear LH w/ shock absorber cylinder assembly.
c. Until a response is felt, turn the absorber control actuator clockwise approximately 40°.
d. Connect the connector.





22. INSTALL REAR SHOCK ABSORBER CAP LH
a. Install the rear shock absorber cap LH with the 3 nuts.
Torque: 25 Nm (260 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)
b. Start the engine so that the pneumatic rear LH w/ shock absorber cylinder assembly is filled with air.
c. Check for air leakage.
23. STABILIZE SUSPENSION
a. Install the rear wheels.
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
b. Jack down the vehicle slowly until all the tires are on the ground.
c. Bounce the vehicle up and down several times to stabilize the suspension.
d. Remove the front wheels.
e. Jack up the rear axle carrier using a wooden block to avoid damage.





24. FULLY TIGHTEN PNEUMATIC REAR LH W/SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
a. Fully tighten pneumatic rear LH w/ shock absorber cylinder assembly lower side nut.
Torque: 70 Nm (720 kgf-cm, 52 ft. lbs.)
25. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
26. ADJUST VEHICLE HEIGHT
27. ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT

DISPOSAL

HINT: Dispose of the RH side by following the same procedures as with the LH side.





1. DISPOSE OF SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY FRONT LH
a. Fully extend the shock absorber rod.
b. Using a drill, make a hole in the dimension shown in the illustration to discharge the gas inside.

CAUTION:
^ Be careful when drilling as shards of metal may fly about. Always use the proper safety equipment.
^ The gas is colorless, odorless and non-poisonous.
