Transmission Installation

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY





a) Using calipers and a straight edge, measure dimension A between the transmission and the end surface of the drive plate (#1).





b) Aligning the matchmarks on the transmission case and torque converter, engage the splines of the input shaft and turbine runner.





c) Engage the splines of the stator shaft and stator while turning the torque converter.

HINT: Turn the torque converter approximately 180°.





d) Turn the torque converter and align the matchmarks on the torque converter and transmission case to engage the key of the oil pump drive gear into the slot on the torque converter.

NOTICE: Do not push on the torque converter when aligning the matchmarks.





e) Using calipers and a straight edge, measure dimension B shown in the illustration and check that B is greater than A measured in step (#1).
Standard: A + 1 mm (0.04 inch) or more

2. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER





a) Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the transmission oil cooler.
b) Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the spacer.





c) Install the transmission oil cooler and spacer to the automatic transmission assembly with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)

3. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER LH





a) Install the transmission control shaft lever to the automatic transmission assembly with the nut.
Torque: 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.)

4. INSTALL TRANSFER DYNAMIC DAMPER





a) Install the transfer dynamic damper to the automatic transmission assembly with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 52 Nm (530 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.)

5. INSTALL REAR NO.1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR





a) Install the rear No.1 engine mounting insulator to the automatic transmission assembly with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 60 Nm (612 kgf-cm, 44 ft. lbs.)





b) Install the engine rear mounting member to the engine mounting insulator rear No.1 with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 38 Nm (380 kgf-cm, 28 ft. lbs.)

6. INSTALL AUTOMATIC WITH TRANSMISSION TRANSFER ASSEMBLY





a) Install the automatic transmission assembly to the engine with the 9 bolts.
Torque: Bolts A and B 71 Nm (724 kgf-cm, 52 ft. lbs.)
Bolt C 37 Nm (377 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.)

HINT:
^ Make sure that the mark is as shown in the illustration.
^ Do not use excess force to pry on the transmission assembly.

7. INSTALL WATER BY-PASS HOSE





a) Tilt down the automatic transmission assembly.





b) Install the 2 water by-pass hoses to the transmission assembly.
c) Install the water by-pass hose clamp with the bolt.
Torque: 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)

8. INSTALL WIRE HARNESS





a) Install the wire harness clamps to the automatic transmission assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.)

9. CONNECT CONNECTOR





a) Connect the park/neutral position switch connector, transmission wire connector, and 2 transmission revolution sensor connectors.

HINT: Push up the lever until the claw of the transmission wire connector makes a connection sound.

10. INSTALL ENGINE REAR MOUNTING MEMBER





a) Install the engine rear mounting member to the body with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft. lbs.)

11. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY





a) Temporarily tighten the floor shift gear shifting rod sub-assembly with the nut.





b) Install the bolt and earth wire to the automatic transmission assembly.
Torque: 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.)

12. INSTALL NO.1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY





a) Install the No.1 exhaust pipe support bracket subassembly to the automatic transmission assembly with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)

13. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE & TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT





a) Install the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts.
Torque: 41 Nm (418 kgf-cm, 30 ft. lbs.)

HINT: First install the black-colored bolt and then the remaining 5 bolts.

14. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY
15. INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
16. INSTALL FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
17. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT WITH CENTER BEARING ASSEMBLY
18. INSTALL OUTSIDE AIR GUIDE PLATE RH
19. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
20. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
21. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
22. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR NO.1 HEAT INSULATOR
23. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
24. INSTALL OXYGEN SENSOR
25. INSTALL FRONT CENTER FLOOR BRACE
26. INSTALL NO.1 REAR FLOOR PANEL BRACE
27. ADD COOLANT
28. ADD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
29. ADJUST COOLANT
30. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
31. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
32. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
33. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
34. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
35. RESET MEMORY
36. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
Some systems need initialization after reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal.
