Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair

STOP LIGHT SWITCH

COMPONENTS:





REMOVAL
1. PRECAUTION
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the terminal to prevent airbag deployment.

3. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (w/o/Illumination)
4. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (w/Illumination)
5. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH
6. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH
7. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
10. REMOVE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY





a. Disconnect the connector.





b. Loosen the lock nut and remove the stop light switch assembly.

INSPECTION





1. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY
a. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table.

Standard Resistance:





HINT: If the measurement result is not normal, replace the stop light switch assembly.

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY





a. Temporarily install the stop light switch assembly with the lock nut.





b. Turn the stop light switch assembly so that the clearance between the threaded area of the switch and the area where the pedal makes contact is between 0.5 and 2.4 mm (0.020 to 0.095 inch). Fully tighten the lock nut.
Torque: 17 Nm (170 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.)





c. Connect the connector to the stop light switch assembly.
2. INSTALL DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
3. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
4. INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
5. INSTALL INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH
6. INSTALL FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH
7. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (w/o/Illumination)
8. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (w/Illumination)
9. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
10. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
11. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Some systems need initialization after reconnecting the negative battery terminal.
