4. INSPECT PROPELLER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT
a. Using a dial indicator, check the runout of the intermediate shaft.
Maximum runout: 0.8 mm (0.031 inch)

NOTICE: The dial indicator must be set at a right angle to the center of the intermediate shaft.

HINT: If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the intermediate shaft.

5. INSPECT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
a. Using a dial indicator, check the runout of the propeller shaft.
Maximum runout: 0.8 mm (0.031 inch)

NOTICE: The dial indicator must be set at a right angle to the center of the propeller shaft.

HINT: If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller shaft.

6. INSPECT UNIVERSAL JOINT SPIDER ASSEMBLY
a. Check that the spider bearing rotates smoothly.
b. Check that there is no play in the spider bearing.

HINT: If necessary, replace the propeller shaft.

7. INSPECT CENTER SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY NO. 1
a. Turn the center support bearing by hand in the rotating direction. Check the center support bearing turns smoothly.
b. Check that the seals are not cracked or damage.

HINT: If the center support bearing is damaged, worn, or does not turn smoothly, replace it.

REASSEMBLY
1. INSTALL CENTER SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY NO. 1

NOTICE: Be careful not to grip the propeller shaft tube too tightly in a vise as this may cause deformation.

a. Using SST and a press, install a new dust deflector No. 1.
SST 09506-35010, 09316-60011 (09316-00011)

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the dust deflector.

b. Using SST and a press, install the center support bearing assembly No. 1.
SST 09330-50010

NOTICE: Be sure to install the bearing in the correct direction.

c. Using SST and a press, insert a new dust deflector until it almost touches the rubber of the center support bearing assembly No. 1.
SST 09608-00071, 09608-06041

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the dust deflector No. 2.

d. Using SST and a press, install a new dust deflector No. 2.
SST 09330-50010

e. Using a snap ring expander, install a new snap ring.

2. INSTALL PROPELLER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

a. Install the dust boot.

NOTICE: Assemble propeller intermediate shaft assembly after wrapping vinyl tape around the spline so that it will not damage the boot.

b. Apply grease to the spline. Grease: Molybdenum disulfide lithium base, NLGI No. 2
c. Align the matchmarks and assemble the intermediate shaft and propeller shaft.

d. Cover the adjusting nut with the dust boot.

NOTICE: The directions of the intermediate shaft companion flange and the propeller shaft companion flange should differ by 180°.

e. Fully tighten the adjusting nut by hand.

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL REAR PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

a. Apply grease to the flexible coupling centering bushings. Grease: Molybdenum disulfide lithium base, NLGI No. 2

b. Align the matchmarks on the transmission companion flange and flexible coupling.
c. Install and tighten the 6 bolts, washers and nuts.
Torque: 79 Nm (805 kgf-cm, 58 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the flexible coupling centering bushing.

HINT: The bolts should be installed from the propeller shaft side.

d. Align the matchmarks on the differential companion flange and flexible coupling.
e. Install and torque the 6 bolts, washers and nuts.
