Variable Valve Timing Actuator Position Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE V-BANK COVER

3. REMOVE VVT SENSOR (for Bank 1)




a. Disconnect the VVT sensor connector.
b. Disconnect the No. 5 ignition coil connector.
c. Disconnect the No. 5 injector connector.
d. Remove the bolt, and pry out the VVT sensor.

4. REMOVE VVT SENSOR (for Bank 2)
a. Disconnect the VVT sensor connector.




b. Disconnect the No. 4 ignition coil connector.
c. Disconnect the No. 4 injector connector.
d. Remove the bolt, and pry out the VVT sensor.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL VVT SENSOR (for Bank 1)




a. Install the VVT sensor with the bolt.
Torque: 7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf)

b. Connect the No. 5 injector connector.
c. Connect the No. 5 ignition coil connector.
d. Connect the VVT sensor connector.

2. INSTALL VVT SENSOR (for Bank 2)




a. Install the VVT sensor with the bolt.
Torque: 7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf)

b. Connect the No. 4 injector connector.
c. Connect the No. 4 ignition coil connector.
d. Connect the VVT sensor connector.

3. INSTALL V-BANK COVER
4. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

5. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
