Component Tightening Specifications and Sequences
CYLINDER HEADLH Bank:
RH Bank:
Install and uniformly tighten the 10 cylinder head bolts and plate washers in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 59 Nm (601 kgf-cm, 44 ft. lbs.)
Mark the front of the cylinder head bolt's head with paint.
Retighten the cylinder head bolts by 90° in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Check that the painted mark is now at a 90° angle to the front.
INTAKE MANIFOLD 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.)
CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP
Uniformly tighten the 22 bearing cap bolts in several passes in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 ft. lbs.) for bolts 21 and 22
Torque 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 inch lbs.) for other bolts
MAIN BEARING CAP
If any one of the bearing cap bolts is broken or deformed, replace it.
Install and uniformly tighten the 20 crankshaft bearing cap bolts in several passes in the sequence shown in the illustration.
If any of the bearing cap bolts cannot meet the torque specification, replace the bearing cap bolt.
Mark the front of the crankshaft bearing cap bolt's head with paint.
Retighten the crankshaft bearing cap bolts by 90° as shown in the illustration.
Check that the painted mark is now at a 90° angle to the front.
Install a new seal washer to the crankshaft bearing cap bolt.
Install and uniformly tighten the 10 crankshaft bearing cap bolts.
Torque 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)
CONNECTING ROD CAP
Install and alternately tighten the 2 connecting rod cap bolts in several passes.
Torque 24.5 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)
If any of the connecting rod cap bolts cannot meet the torque specification, replace the connecting rod cap bolts.
Mark the front of the connecting cap bolt with paint.
Retighten the cap bolts 90° as shown in the illustration.
Check that the painted mark is now at a 90° angle to the front.
DRIVE PLATE
Install and uniformly tighten the 8 mounting bolts in several passes, in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)
OIL PUMP
Install the oil pump with a new stud bolt and the 7 bolts. Uniformly tighten the bolts in several passes.
Torque 15.5 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) for bolt D
Each bolt length is as shown in the table.
Bolt Length:
Do not reuse the stud bolt B.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD 44 Nm (449 kgf-cm, (66 inch lbs.)
WATER PUMP
Install a new gasket and the water pump with the 5 bolts, 2 stud bolts and nut.
Torque 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.) for bolts
Torque 18 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 24 ft. lbs.) for nuts and stud bolts
