Rear No. 2 Upper Control Arm

REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM

COMPONENTS:





REMOVAL
1. REMOVE REAR TIRE
2. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL NO. 2 SUPPORT PROTECTOR
3. SEPARATE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING





4. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM
a. Remove the nut on the axle carrier side.
b. Using SST, separate the rear no.2 upper control arm

NOTICE:
^ Securely tie string of the SST to the vehicle.
^ Do not damage the dust cover.
^ Securely set the SST on the spacer of the axle carrier.
^ If the spacer of the axle carrier comes off, replace the axle carrier with a new one.





c. Remove the bolt, nut, washer, and rear no.2 upper control arm.

HINT: Push the axle carrier downward.

INSPECTION





1. INSPECT REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM
a. Temporarily install the nut, and flip the ball joint stud back and forth 5 times as shown in the illustration.
b. Use a torque wrench to turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn. Take the torque reading on the 5th turn.
Turning torque: 3.4 Nm (35 kgf-cm, 2.5 ft. lbs.)
If the value is not within the specified range, replace the rear no.2 upper control arm with a new one.
c. Check the dust boot for cracks or grease leakage.

INSTALLATION





1. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM

a. Install the stud of the rear no.2 upper control arm, and temporarily tighten a new nut.
b. Install the rear upper control arm, and temporarily tighten the bolt, nut and washer.

HINT: Push the axle carrier downward.





c. Fully tighten the nut of the rear no.2 upper control arm.
Torque: 70 Nm (714 kgf-cm, 52 ft. lbs.)

2. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING





3. STABILIZE SUSPENSION
a. Jack up the axle carrier, with a wooden block placed between the jack and axle carrier, to apply load to the suspension so that the rear drive shaft assembly becomes level.

4. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM
5. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING
6. INSTALL DIFFERENTIAL NO. 2 SUPPORT PROTECTOR
7. INSTALL REAR TIRE
8. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
9. VEHICLE PREPARATION FOR HEADLIGHT AIM ADJUSTMENT
