Steering Angle Sensor: Service and Repair

STEERING SENSOR

Components:





REMOVAL
1. PRECAUTION
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
3. REMOVE PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

NOTICE: When reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal after installing the steering sensor, check that the front tires and steering wheel are kept aligned straight ahead before and after connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal.

4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER NO.2 LOWER
5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER NO.3 LOWER
6. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
7. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER
9. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY WITH STEERING SENSOR





10. REMOVE STEERING SENSOR
a. Disengage the claws and remove the steering sensor from the spiral cable sub-assembly with steering sensor.

INSPECTION
1. INSPECT STEERING SENSOR
a. Inspect the steering sensor. If any of the following occurs, replace the steering sensor with a new one
^ The surface of the steering sensor is cracked, dented, or chipped off.
^ The connector or wire harness is scratched, cracked, or damaged
^ The steering sensor has been dropped.

INSTALLATION





1. INSTALL STEERING SENSOR
a. Align the locating pins, engage the claws and install the steering sensor to the spiral cable sub-assembly

2. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY WITH STEERING SENSOR
3. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER
4. CENTER SPIRAL CABLE
5. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
6. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
7. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
8. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
9. INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
10. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
11. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
Same systems need initialization after reconnecting the cable to the negative battery cable
