Engine Control Module: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
a. Remove the 3 clips and side cover.
4. REMOVE ECM COVER
a. Remove the 3 bolts and ECM cover.
NOTE:
- Remove all water from on and around the ECM cover.
- Perform the inspection indoors to avoid rain.
- Be sure to prevent water intrusion to the ECM (connectors and screw parts).
5. REMOVE ECM
a. Disconnect the ECM connectors.
1. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector holder.
2. Disconnect the 6 ECM connectors.
b. Remove the 2 nuts and ECM from the ECM box.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL ECM
a. Install the ECM to the ECM box.
NOTE:
- Install the ECM on the ECM box with the name plate facing the inside of the vehicle.
- Make sure that there is no foreign matter on the gasket surface of the ECM box.
- Insert the stud bolt on the vehicle rear side to the ECM first.
- Make sure that stud bolts are securely installed into the front and rear bolt holes.
b. Install the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)
NOTE: Be sure to first tighten the nut on the vehicle rear.
c. Connect the ECM connectors.
1. Connect the 6 ECM connectors.
NOTE: Be sure to securely connect the connector.
2. Connect the No. 4 connector holder to the ECM box.
2. INSTALL ECM COVER
a. Install the ECM cover with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)
NOTE: Make sure that the wire harness does not get caught between the parts.
3. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
a. Install the side cover with the 3 clips.
4. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
5. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
6. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
