Throttle Body: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL




a. Using a clip remover, remove the 7 clips and duct seal.

3. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER




a. Using a clip remover, remove the 3 clips.
b. Remove the 10 screws and under cover.

4. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
5. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH




a. Loosen the nut and remove the 2 clips and side cover.

6. REMOVE V-BANK COVER




a. Remove the 2 nuts and V-bank cover.

7. DISCONNECT NO. 2 VENTILATION HOSE




a. Disconnect the ventilation hose from the cylinder head.

8. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE




a. Disconnect the MAF meter connector.
b. Disconnect the clamp from the air cleaner.




c. Disconnect the VSV (for EVAP).




d. Disconnect the 4 clamps.
e. Remove the hose clamp and air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose.

9. REMOVE WATER BY-PASS HOSE




a. Disconnect the 2 water by-pass hoses from the throttle body.

10. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY




a. Disconnect the throttle motor connector.
b. Remove the 4 bolts, throttle body and gasket.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY




a. Install a new gasket to the intake air surge tank.
HINT: Align the protrusion of the gasket on the intake air surge tank.




b. Install the throttle body with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
c. Connect the throttle motor connector.

2. CONNECT WATER BY-PASS HOSE




a. Connect the 2 water by-pass hoses to the throttle body.

3. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE




a. Install the air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose assembly with the 4 clamps and hose clamp.

HINT: Be sure to install the air cleaner assembly so that the screw part of the hose clamp is as shown in the illustration.




b. Install the VSV (for EVAP) to the air cleaner hose.




c. Connect the MAF meter connector and clamp to the air cleaner.

4. CONNECT NO. 2 VENTILATION HOSE




a. Connect the ventilation hose to the cylinder head cover with the clamp.

5. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
6. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
7. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER




a. Install the under cover with the 10 bolts and 3 clips.

8. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
9. CHECK FUNCTION OF THROTTLE BODY
10. INSTALL V-BANK COVER




a. Install the V-bank cover with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.*lbf)

11. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH




a. Install the side cover with the 2 clips and nut.

12. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL




a. Install the duct seal with the 7 clips.

13. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

14. WARM UP ENGINE
a. After the engine is warmed up, check that the maintained parts operate normally.
