Variable Valve Timing Actuator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. REMOVE V-BANK COVER
3. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 1 Exhaust Side)
a. Disconnect the oil control valve connector.
b. Remove the bolt and oil control valve.
c. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.
4. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 1 Intake Side)
a. Disconnect the oil control valve connector.
b. Remove the bolt and V-bank cover bracket.
c. Remove the bolt and oil control valve.
d. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.
5. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
6. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
7. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
8. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
9. REMOVE NO. 2 VENTILATION HOSE
10. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE
11. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS HOSE
12. DISCONNECT HEATER WATER INLET HOSE
13. DISCONNECT HEATER WATER OUTLET HOSE
14. REMOVE ENGINE REAR COVER
15. DISCONNECT UNION TO CHECK VALVE HOSE
16. REMOVE VENTILATION HOSE
17. DISCONNECT COLD START INJECTOR
18. REMOVE INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK
19. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 2 Intake Side)
a. Disconnect the oil control valve connector.
b. Remove the bolt and oil control valve.
c. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.
20. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 2 Exhaust Side)
a. Disconnect the oil control valve connector.
b. Remove the bolt and oil control valve.
c. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 2 Exhaust Side)
a. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring of the oil control valve.
b. Install the oil control valve with the bolt.
Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
NOTE: Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or jumped when installing the oil control valve.
c. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.
2. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 2 Intake Side)
a. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring of the oil control valve.
b. Install the oil control valve with the bolt.
Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
NOTE: Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or jumped when installing the oil control valve.
c. Connect the oil control valve connector.
3. INSTALL INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK
4. CONNECT COLD START FUEL INJECTOR ASSY
5. CONNECT VENTILATION HOSE
6. INSTALL ENGINE REAR COVER
7. CONNECT HEATER WATER OUTLET HOSE
8. CONNECT HEATER WATER INLET HOSE
9. CONNECT UNION TO CHECK VALVE HOSE
10. CONNECT WATER BY-PASS HOSE
11. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE
12. CONNECT NO. 2 VENTILATION HOSE
13. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 1 Intake Side)
a. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring of the oil control valve.
b. Install the oil control valve with the bolt.
Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
NOTE: Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or jumped when installing the oil control valve.
c. Install the V-bank cover bracket with the bolt.
Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
d. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.
14. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 1 Exhaust Side)
a. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring of the oil control valve.
b. Install the oil control valve with the bolt.
Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
NOTE: Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or jumped when installing the oil control valve.
c. Connect the oil control valve connector.
15. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
16. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
17. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
18. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
19. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
20. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
21. INSTALL V-BANK COVER
22. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
23. DRIVING TEST
a. After the engine is warmed up, perform the driving test. Then check that the oil control valve operates normally.
