Thermostat: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
3. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
4. REMOVE NO.1 AIR CLEANER INLET
a. Remove the bolt and inlet.
5. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
6. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 nuts and cover.
7. DISCONNECT RADIATOR HOSE OUTLET
a. Disconnect the hose from the water inlet with thermostat.
8. REMOVE WATER INLET SUB-ASSEMBLY WITH THERMOSTAT
a. Remove the 3 nuts, water inlet with thermostat and gasket.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL WATER INLET SUB-ASSEMBLY WITH THERMOSTAT
a. Install anew gasket and the water inlet with thermostat with the 3 nuts.
Torque: 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.)
2. CONNECT RADIATOR HOSE OUTLET
a. Connect the hose to the water inlet with thermostat.
3. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
4. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
a. Check for the engine coolant leaks.
5. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the cover with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch. lbs.)
6. INSTALL NO.1 AIR CLEANER INLET
a. Install the inlet with the bolt.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)
7. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
8. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
9. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
10. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
