69INTRODUCTION:
Customers may complain that the left rear door does not open on the first pull. Improvements to the internal latch mechanism have been made to correct this condition.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2006 model year GS 300 and GS 430 vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
To replace the rear door latch assembly, refer to ETAS, 2006 model year GS430/300 Repair Manual: Engine Hood / Door: Rear Door: On-Vehicle, Removal, Adjustment.
1. Disconnect the cable from negative (-) battery terminal.
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. Remove the rear door handle bezel plug. Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 claws and remove the bezel plug.
Remove the rear door handle and the door handle
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
3. Remove the rear door trim panel assembly.
A. Detach the 2 claws and trim lower cover located on the underside of the door armrest in the map pocket.
B. Remove the 2 screws.
C. Detach the 6 clips labeled B and remove the trim together with the weatherstrip.
D. Detach the 4 clips labeled A to separate the weatherstrip.
E. Disconnect the 2 cables from the inside handle.
F. Disconnect the connectors and remove the trim board.
4. Remove the rear door trim cover.
A. Remove the screw.
B. Using a clip remover, detach the 6 clips and remove the trim cover.
5. Remove the MPX switch.
6. Remove the rear door frame garnish. Using the taped screwdriver, remove the 2 clips and garnish.
7. Remove the inner rear door glass weatherstrip by pulling it upward.
8. Remove the rear door service hole cover.
A. Remove the clip.
B. Remove the service hole cover.
NOTE:
Remove the remaining tape on the door.
9. Remove the rear door window division bar sub-assembly. Remove the 2 bolts, screw, and division bar.
NOTE:
Be careful when removing the bolts and screw as the division bar may fall and become damaged.
10. Remove the rear door with the motor lock assembly.
A. Disconnect the connector.
B. Using a Torx socket (T30), remove the 3 screws and door lock.
HINT:
Remove the door lock through the service hole.
NOTE:
Be careful when removing the bolts as the door lock may fall and become damaged.
11. Install the NEW door lock.
12. Reinstall the door components in reverse order of removal.
13. Re-initialize power systems.
