Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

REPLACEMENT
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER
3. REMOVE RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER LH
4. REMOVE RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER RH
5. DISCONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
6. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY
7. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO. 1





8. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSY
a. Move the shift lever to N.
b. Remove the nut and disconnect the rod.
9. DISCONNECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR





10. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH
a. Remove the nut and control shaft lever with the rod.





11. REMOVE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY
a. Using a screwdriver, pry out the lock washer.
b. Remove the lock nut and lock washer.
c. Remove the bolt and park/neutral position switch.
12. INSTALL PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY
a. Install the park/neutral position switch.
b. Install the bolt. Tighten it as much as possible by hand.
c. Install a new lock plate and the nut.
Torque: 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.)
d. Temporarily install the control shaft lever.





e. Turn the lever counterclockwise until it stops, then turn it clockwise 2 notches.
f. Remove the control shaft lever.





g. Align the neutral basic line with the switch groove, and tighten the bolt.
Torque: 12.8 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)





h. Using a screwdriver, bend the tabs of the lock washer.





13. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH
a. Install the nut and control shaft lever with the rod.
Torque: 15.7 Nm (160 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.)
14. CONNECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR





15. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSY
a. Temporarily connect the rod to the connecting rod swivel with the nut.
16. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
17. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
18. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY
19. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO. 1
20. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY
21. CONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
22. INSTALL RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER RH
23. INSTALL RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER LH
24. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER
25. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
26. PERFORM INITIALIZATION

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

27. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
