Component Inspection
INSPECTION1. INSPECT CHARCOAL CANISTER ASSY
a. Visually check the charcoal canister for cracks or damage.
b. Inspect operation of the charcoal canister.
1. Install the cap to the vent port.
2. While holding the purge port closed, blow air (1.76 kPa (18 gf/sq.cm, 0.26 psi)) into the EVAP port. Check that air flows from the air drain port.
3. While holding the purge port and the air drain port closed, blow air (1.76 kPa (18 gf/sq.cm, 0.26 psi)) into the EVAP port. Check that air does not flow from the air inlet port.
4. While holding the air inlet port closed, apply a vacuum (3.43 kPa (25.7 mmHg, 1.01 in.Hg)) to the purge port. Check that the vacuum does not decrease. Then release the air inlet port and check that the vacuum decreases.
5. While holding the air inlet port closed, apply vacuum (3.43 kPa (25.7 mmHg, 1.01 in.Hg)) to the EVAP port. Check that air flows into the purge port.
If the operation is not as specified, replace the charcoal canister assembly.
6. Remove the hose and cap from the vent port.
2. INSPECT BY-PASS VSV
a. Measure the resistance of the VSV.
If the result is not as specified, replace the VSV.
b. Check the operation of the VSV.
1. Check that air does not flow from port E to port F.
2. Apply battery voltage across the terminals.
3. Check that air flows from port E to port F.
If the result is not as specified, replace the VSV.
3. INSPECT VENTILATION VALVE SUB-ASSY
a. Install a clean hose to the ventilation valve.
b. Inspect operation of the ventilation valve.
1. Blow air from the cylinder head side, and check that air passes through easily.
CAUTION: Do not suck air through the valve. Petroleum substances stuck inside the valve are harmful.
2. Blow air from the intake manifold side, and check that air passes through with difficulty.
If the operation is not as specified, replace the ventilation valve.
c. Remove the clean hose from the ventilation valve.
4. INSPECT FUEL TANK CAP ASSY
a. Visually check if the cap and/or gasket are deformed or damaged.
If necessary, repair or replace the cap.
5. INSPECT EVAP VSV
a. Measure the resistance of the VSV.
If the result is not as specified, replace the VSV.
b. Check operation of the VSV.
1. Check that air does not flow from port E to port F.
If the result is not as specified, replace the VSV.
2. Apply battery voltage across the terminals.
3. Check that air flow from port E to port F.
If the result is not as specified, replace the VSV.
6. INSPECT CCV
a. Measure the resistance of the CCV.
If the result is not as specified, replace the CCV.
b. Check operation of the CCV.
1. Check that air flows from port A to port B.
2. Apply battery voltage across the terminals.
3. Check that air does not flow from port A to port B.
If the result is not as specified, replace the CCV.
