Control Assembly: Service and Repair

Air Conditioning Control Assy:






OVERHAUL

NOTE: When disassembling the A/C control assembly, measures should be taken to prevent static electricity from damaging the system.

HINT:
- The installation procedures are the removal procedures order. However, only installation procedures requiring additional information are included.
- A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart.

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.




2. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY
a. Pull the A/C control towards the rear of the vehicle and detach the 6 clips.
b. Disconnect the 3 connectors and remove the A/C control.




3. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH FRONT
a. Remove the 2 screws.
b. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and remove the panel garnish from the A/C control.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.




4. REMOVE HEATER CONTROL HOUSING
a. Remove the 6 screws.
b. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 claws. Then separate the heater control housing.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.




c. Disconnect the 2 cooler wires and remove the control housing

5. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY




a. Remove the 2 screws, cover plate and water-protective sheet.




b. Remove the A/C amplifier.
c. Remove the 2 cooler wires.




6. w/ LEXUS navigation system:
REMOVE COOLER WIRE NO.1
a. Remove the cooler wire from the control switch.

7. REMOVE HEATER CONTROL BASE SUB-ASSEMBLY




a. Remove the 2 screws.




b. Using a screwdriver, detach the 7 claws as shown in the illustration.

HINT:
- Lift up the black film. Use the screwdriver to detach the claws labeled A in the illustration.
- Tape the screwdriver tip before use.




c. Face the base upward as shown in the illustration.




d. Slowly remove the base.

NOTE: The base is removed while it is facing down, the control knob may fall off.




8. w/ LEXUS navigation system:
REMOVE MULTI-DISPLAY JUNCTION BLOCK
a. Remove the 2 screws and multi-display J/B.




9. REMOVE HEATER CONTROL KNOB
a. Remove the control knobs.




10. INSTALL HEATER CONTROL KNOB
a. Install the control knobs as shown in the illustration.

NOTE: If a heater control knob falls off after installation, it may have been installed backwards.




11. w/ LEXUS navigation system:
INSTALL MULTI-DISPLAY JUNCTION BLOCK
a. Install the multi-display J/B with the 2 screws.

12. INSTALL HEATER CONTROL BASE SUB-ASSEMBLY




a. Place the heater control base on the control switch.
b. Push the base's 2 claws to attach the base to the switch,as shown in the illustration.

HINT: Pushing the base's 2 claws will attach all 7 of its claws.




c. Install the 2 screws.

13. INSTALL AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY




a. Connect the 2 cooler wires to the A/C amplifier.

NOTE: Connect each wire so that the black line side of each wire is as shown in the illustration.

b. Push on the locking parts of the connectors to secure the cooler wires.




c. Install the A/C amplifier with the 2 screws, cover plate and water-protective sheet.

NOTE:
- Be sure to fit the base to the groove on the cover plate.
- Insert the water-protective sheet into the heater control housing as shown in the illustration.

14. INSTALL HEATER CONTROL HOUSING




a. Connect the 2 cooler wires to the heater control housing.
b. Push on the locking parts of the connectors to secure the cooler wires.




c. Attach the 4 claws and install the heater control housing with the 6 screws.

15. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
16. PERFORM INITIALIZATION

NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable the negative (-) battery terminal.
