Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

REPLACEMENT
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent vent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. Bank 1 sensor 2, bank 2 sensor 2: DISCONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
a. Remove the 5 bolts and engine under cover No. 2.
b. Remove the 2 heated oxygen sensors.
3. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY TAIL
a. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts, 4 rings, exhaust pipe and 2 gaskets.
b. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 tail baffles from the exhaust pipe.
4. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER
a. Remove the 4 bolts and floor brace center.
5. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY CENTER
a. Remove the 2 nuts, 2 bolts, 2 rings, exhaust pipe and gasket.
6. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY FRONT
a. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts, exhaust pipe and 2 gaskets.
7. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE NO. 1 SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 bolts and bracket.
8. REMOVE TWC
a. Remove the 6 nuts, 2 TWCs and 2 gaskets.
9. INSTALL TWC
a. Install 2 new gaskets and 2 TWCs with 6 new nuts.
Torque: 62 Nm (632 kgf-cm, 46 ft. lbs.)
10. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE NO. 1 SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the bracket with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
11. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY FRONT
a. Install 2 new gaskets and the exhaust pipe with the 4 nuts and 4 bolts.
Torque: 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
12. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY CENTER
a. Install a new gasket and the exhaust pipe with the 2 nuts, 2 bolts and 2 rings.
Torque: 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
13. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER
a. Install the floor brace with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.)
14. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY TAIL
a. Install the 2 tail baffles to the exhaust pipe with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.)
b. Install 2 new gaskets and the exhaust pipe with the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and 4 rings.
Torque: 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
15. Bank 1 sensor 2, bank 2 sensor 2: INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
a. Twist the sensor wire counterclockwise 3.5 turns and install the sensor.
Torque: 44 Nm (449 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
b. After installing the sensor, check that the sensor wire is not twisted.
If it is twisted, remove the sensor and reinstall it.
16. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
17. PERFORM INITIALIZATION

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

18. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
If gas is leaking, tighten areas as necessary to stop the leak. Replace damaged parts as necessary.
