Thermostat: Service and Repair






REPLACEMENT
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET NO.1
3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT





4. REMOVE THERMOSTAT
a. Remove the 3 nuts and disconnect the water inlet from the water inlet housing.
b. Remove the thermostat.
c. Remove the gasket from the thermostat.





5. INSTALL THERMOSTAT
a. Install a new gasket to the thermostat.
b. Insert the thermostat into the water inlet housing with the jiggle valve as shown in the illustration.

HINT: The jiggle valve may be set within 30° of either side of the prescribed position.





c. Install the water inlet with the 3 nuts.
Torque: 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)
6. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
7. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
8. INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET NO.1
9. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
10. PERFORM INITIALIZATION

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
