Brake Pedal Assy: Adjustments
ADJUSTMENT1. CHECK AND ADJUST BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT
a. Check brake pedal height.
Pedal height from asphalt sheet: 154.0 to 164.0 mm (6.063 to 6.457 inch)
b. Adjust the pedal height.
1. Remove the instrument finish panel lower.
2. Disconnect the connector from the stop lamp switch.
3. Loosen the switch lock nut and remove the switch.
4. Loosen the clevis lock nut.
5. Adjust the pedal height by turning the pedal push rod.
6. Tighten the push rod lock nut.
Torque: 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft. lbs.)
7. INSTALL the switch.
8. Connect the connector to the switch.
9. Depress the pedal 5 to 15 mm (0.20 to 0.59 inch). Rotate the switch until the stop lamps illuminate. Then tighten the lock nut.
10. After the installation, depress the pedal 5 to 15 mm (0.20 to 0.59 inch), and check that the stop lamps illuminate.
2. CHECK PEDAL FREE PLAY
a. Stop the engine. Depress the pedal several times until there is no vacuum in the booster. Then release the pedal.
b. Depress the pedal until resistance is felt.
c. Check the pedal's free play by measuring the distance between the position in (b) and the pedal's released position.
Pedal free play: 0.2 to 2.0 mm (0.008 to 0.079 inch)
If the free play is not as specified, proceed to step (d).
If the free play is as specified, proceed to step (3).
d. Check the stop lamp switch clearance.
Stop lamp switch clearance: 0.5 to 2.4 mm (0.020 to 0.094 inch)
If the clearance is not as specified, adjust the clearance and recheck the pedal's free play.
If the clearance is as specified, troubleshoot the brake system and proceed to step (3).
3. CHECK PEDAL RESERVE DISTANCE
a. Release the parking brake lever. Start the engine.
b. Depress the pedal and check the pedal reserve distance.
1. Depress the pedal with a force of 196 N (20 kgf 44.1 lbs.)
2. Measure the distance between the pedal and asphalt sheet shown in the illustration.
Pedal reserve distance: More than 100 mm (3.94 inch)
If the distance is not as specified, troubleshoot the brake system.
