Component Inspection
INSPECTION1. INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR
a. Measure the resistance of the speed sensor.
If the result is not as specified, replace the speed sensor.
HINT: Check the speed sensor signal after the speed sensor replacement
2. INSPECT REAR SPEED SENSOR
a. Measure the resistance of the sensor.
If the result is not as specified, replace the speed sensor.
HINT: Check the speed sensor signal after the speed sensor replacement
3. INSPECT BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SUB-ASSY
a. Measure the resistance of the cylinder.
HINT: Resistance of each solenoid at 20 °C (68 °F)
If the result is not as specified, replace the brake master cylinder sub-assembly.
4. INSPECT RELAY (Marking: ABS SOL)
a. Measure the resistance of the relay.
If the result is not as specified, replace the relay.
5. INSPECT STEERING SENSOR
a. Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 (IG1) and 2 (ESS), 2 (ESS) and 3 (BAT).
b. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals 9 (SSI-) and 10 (SSI+) of the steering sensor.
c. Turn the steering column shaft slowly and check the signal waveform.
HINT: The above signal waveform does not repeat ON and OFF regularly and this ON to OFF interval changes depending on the steering column shaft movement.
If the result is not as specified, replace the steering sensor.
6. INSPECT YAW RATE SENSOR (INCLUDE DECELERATION SENSOR)
a. Connect 3 dry batteries of 1.5 V in series.
b. Connect terminal 8 (VYS) to the batteries' positive (+) terminal and terminal 5 (GYAW) to the batteries' negative (-) terminal. Apply about 4.5 V between terminals 8 (VYS) and 5 (GYAW).
NOTE: Do not apply voltage of 6 V or more to terminals 8 (VYS) and 5 (GYAW).
c. Measure the voltage when the sensor is tilted forward and rearward.
HINT:
- If the sensor is tilted too much, it may output the wrong value.
- If voltage is dropped, replace the sensor with a new one.
- The sensor removed from the vehicle body should not be placed upside down.
If the result is not as specified, replace the yaw rate sensor (include deceleration sensor).
7. INSPECT RELAY (Marking: IG1)
a. Measure the resistance of the relay.
If the result is not as specified, replace the relay.
8. INSPECT RELAY (Marking: IG2)
a. Measure the resistance of the relay.
If the result is not as specified, replace the relay.
9. INSPECT STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSY
a. Measure the resistance of the switch.
If the result is not as specified, replace the stop lamp switch assembly.
10. INSPECT RELAY (Marking: ABS MTR, TRAC MTR)
a. Measure the resistance of the relay.
If the result is not as specified, replace the relay.
11. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY
a. Measure the resistance of the switch.
If the result is not as specified, replace the parking brake switch assembly.
12. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
a. Disconnect the B4 warning switch connector.
b. Measure the resistance of the switch.
If the result is not as specified, replace the brake fluid level warning switch.
13. INSPECT VSC OFF SWITCH
a. Measure the resistance of the switch.
If the result is not as specified, replace the VSC OFF switch.
14. INSPECT SKID CONTROL BUZZER
a. Apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2 of the skid control buzzer connector, and then check that the buzzer sounds.
OK: Buzzer sounds can be heard.
If the result is not as specified, replace the skid control buzzer.
