Smart Key System, Theft Deterrent and Key Reminder
SYSTEM OUTLINE1. The smart key system allows the driver to lock/unlock the doors, start the engine, and open the trunk, just by carrying the key.
- Smart unlock
When the doors are locked, a detective barrier of 1.0 m is made around each door of the vehicle. If a person approaches the vehicle with the smart key and enters the detective area, the ID code of the door transmitter and the key are verified automatically. If the ID matches, the door lock enters the unlock-standby mode, and the doors can be unlocked by touching the door handle.
At this point, the smart key indicator on the instrument panel starts blinking and auto-alarm is released.
- Smart lock
The system verifies the smart key ID code both inside and outside the vehicle when the lock switch of the door handle is pushed while all the doors are closed. The doors will be unlocked if the ID code verification inside the vehicle is NG and outside the vehicle is OK.
- Smart key ignition
When the driver enters the vehicle with the smart key and pushes the engine switch (Unlock warning switch), the system verifies the ID code inside the vehicle. If the ID code matches, the smart key indicator in the instrument cluster flashes, the steering lock is released, and the engine enters the stand-by mode.
At this point, the security indicator goes off. Under this condition, the engine will be started by turning the engine switch to the START position. By turning the engine switch to ACC, the smart key indicator is turned off. Turning the engine switch from IG/ON through ACC to PUSH/LOCK stops the engine.
The shift lever is in other than the P position while the engine is stopped, the engine switch can not be turned from ACC to PUSH/LOCK position.
Turning the engine switch from ACC to PUSH/LOCK activates the steering lock and engine immobilizer, and gets the security indicator to start blinking.
- Smart trunk open
Bring the smart key with you and pressing a trunk switch located on the trunk, an external transmitter of the trunk will establish an ID code detection area and then the theft deterrent ECU will start to check your ID code. The trunk will open automatically when the ID code is verified by the ECU.
- Smart alarm
The smart key system is very handy. You can carry a key with you anywhere. There are some cautions, however, that you should be aware of. The system function can be vulnerable to human factor errors such as a lost key, failure to switch off the engine, etc., which could result in an accident such as engine re-starting problems, vehicle theft, or unexpected vehicle roll-away.
To prevent these accidents from occurring, the alarm system, which consists of the meter buzzer, meter information and wireless buzzer, cautions the driver by sounding the alarm if combinations of the shift lever position, engine switch position, lock switch position, power door and window open or closed positions, and other conditions coincide with alarm conditions.
2. In case the battery of the smart key runs down, as traditional keys, the doors can be locked/unlocked by inserting the mechanical key in the door key cylinder, and the engine can be started/stopped by inserting the smart key in the engine SW.
3. Door closer system (w/ door closer)
When the front and rear door closer system detects that the front and rear doors are ajar, it automatically actuates the motors to fully close the front and rear doors.
Position detection switches are enclosed in the door closer mechanism in each of the front and rear doors lock assemblies to detect whether the front and rear doors are open, closed, or ajar. If a detection signal that indicates that a front and rear doors are ajar is transmitted to the door ECU, the door ECU actuates the operation of the door closer motor in order to fully close the front and rear doors.
In this system, each door is independently controlled by the door ECU that is provided in the respective door. The door ECUs, which maintain communication via the BEAN (Body electronics area network), belong the door bus.
