Throttle Body: Service and Repair
Throttle Body Assy:
REPLACEMENT
1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
2. REMOVE V-BANK COVER
Remove the V-bank cover by removing the 2 nuts.
3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET NO.1
4. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
a. Disconnect the air hose and ventilation hose No.1.
b. Remove the intake air connector pipe by removing the bolt and hose clamp.
5. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSY
a. Disconnect the connectors and wire.
b. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, throttle body and gasket. Then disconnect the water bypass hoses.
6. REMOVE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
Remove the 2 set screws and throttle position sensor.
7. INSTALL THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
a. Reinstall a new throttle position sensor.
b. Check that the throttle valve is under the condition of the opener opening angle (about 4°).
c. Install the sensor to the place where is at 15° rotated to the right from the specified installation position.
d. Gradually turn sensor counterclockwise until it touches the throttle valve shaft, and temporarily tighten the 2 set screws.
e. Connect the throttle position sensor connector.
f. Connect the LEXUS hand-held tester or OBDII scan tool to the DLC3.
g. Turn the ignition switch ON.
NOTE: After turning the ignition switch ON, do not depress the accelerator pedal.
h. While reading the valve of the throttle valve opening percentage (THROTTLE POS) of the CURRENT DATA, turn the throttle position sensor slowly to left and right and set the sensor at the center value of the standard value, and then tighten the screws.
Standard throttle valve opening percentage: 15.6 - 19.6 %
Torque: 2.0 Nm (20 kgf.cm, 18 in.lbf)
NOTE: After turning the ignition switch ON, do not depress the accelerator pedal.
i. Recheck throttle valve opening percentage.
j. Perform fully closed throttle valve by hand and check that the valve of the throttle valve opening percentage (THROTTLE POS) of the CURRENT DATA stays with the standard value.
Standard throttle valve opening percentage: 10 - 14 %
If the throttle valve opening percentage is not as specified, repeat steps (h) to (j).
k. Paint the 2 set screws.
8. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY ASSY
a. Install a new gasket and throttle body with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
b. Connect the water bypass hoses.
Torque: 18 Nm (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)
9. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
a. Install the intake air connector pipe with the bolt and the hose clamp.
Torque:
4 Nm (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) for hose clamp
5 Nm (50 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) for bolt
b. Connect the air hose and the ventilation hose No.1 together.
10. INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET NO.1
11. INSTALL V-BANK COVER
Torque: 5 Nm (50 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)
12. REFILL ENGINE COOLANT
13. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
