REAR AXLE SHAFT LH
REPLACEMENT
HINT:
^ Replace the RH side by the same procedures with the LH side.
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
a. Remove the 10 bolts and ornament.
b. Remove the 5 nuts and rear wheel.
2. LOOSEN REAR AXLE SHAFT LH NUT
3. SEPARATE DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSY REAR LH
a. Remove the 2 bolts and brake cylinder from the axle hub.
b. Support the brake caliper securely.
4. REMOVE REAR DISC
5. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE ASSY
6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER LH
7. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSY NO.3
8. SEPARATE TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSY LH
SST 09610-20012
9. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO.1 LH
10. SEPARATE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSY LH
11. SEPARATE UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSY REAR LH
a. Using SST, disconnect the upper suspension arm from the axle carrier.
SST 0962-00011
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the dust cover. Support the axle carrier.
12. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO.2 LH
13. REMOVE REAR WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR NO.2 LH
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the dust deflector No. 2.
14. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH
a. Remove the 2 bolts and nuts.
b. Mount the axle carrier in a vise.
HINT: Use a set of soft jaws in the vise to protect the axle carrier.
NOTICE: Do not tighten the vise too tight.
c. Using SST, remove the axle hub from the axle carrier.
d. Remove the backing plate.
e. Using SST, remove the bearing inner race from the axle hub.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the axle hub.
15. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH SNAP RING
a. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring.
16. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH BEARING
a. Using SST and a press, remove the hub bearing from the axle carrier.
SST 09950-60010 (09951-00650), 09950-70010 (09951-07100)
17. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT LH BEARING
a. Using SST and a press, install a new hub bearing to the axle carrier.

18. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT LH SNAP RING
a. Using snap ring pliers, install the snap ring to the axle carrier.
19. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT LH
a. Install the backing plate with the 2 bolts and nuts.
Torque: 59 Nm (600 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.)
b. Using SST and a press, install the axle hub to the axle carrier.

20. INSTALL REAR WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR NO.2 LH
a. Using SST and a hammer, install a new dust deflector No. 2 to the axle carrier.

HINT: Align the speed sensor installation hole of dust deflector and that of axle carrier.
21. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO.2 LH
22. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSY REAR LH
23. INSTALL TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSY LH
24. FULLY TIGHTEN UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSY REAR LH
25. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSY LH
26. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO.1 LH
27. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSY NO.3
28. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER LH
29. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE ASSY
30. INSPECT BEARING BACKLASH
a. Using a dial indicator near the center of the axle hub and check the backlash in the bearing shaft direction
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch)
If the backlash exceeds the specified maximum, replace the bearing.
31. INSPECT AXLE HUB DEVIATION
a. Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt.
Maximum: 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch)
If the deviation exceeds the specified maximum, replace the axle hub.
32. INSTALL REAR DISC
33. INSTALL DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSY REAR LH
a. Install the brake cylinder to the steering knuckle with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 104 Nm (1,065 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs.)
34. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SHOE LINING THICKNESS
35. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO.2 LH
36. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
a. Install the rear wheel with the 5 nuts.
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
b. Install the ornament with the 10 bolts.
Torque: 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)
37. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
38. SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL CHECK
