Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Testing and Inspection
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION1. CHECK COOLING FAN SYSTEM
a. Check the cooling fan operation in the chart.
Test condition: Water temperature is 82°C (180°F) below.
If the fan does not operate, proceed to next step.
2. INSPECT ELECTRIC COOLING FAN MOTOR OPERATION
a. Remove the air inlet duct.
b. Disconnect the cooling fan connectors.
c. Connect an ohmmeter and battery as shown in the illustration.
d. Check that the fan operates smoothly and measure the amperage.
Standard amperage: 9.2 - 11.0 A at 20°C (68°F)
If the fan does not operate, replace the motor.
If the fan operates, proceed to next step.
3. INSPECT COOLING FAN ECU WIRE HARNESS
a. Remove the air inlet duct.
b. Disconnect the connector.
c. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side between terminals 1 and 3.
Voltage: 9 - 14 V
If the voltage is not as specified, check the fuse, relay and wire harness.
If the voltage is as specified, replace the cooling fan ECU.
