Introduction

When installing the Lexus "Nokia" Integrated Mobile Phone System in 2003 model year SC 430 vehicles equipped with Lexus Link, some customers may complain about a buzz noise on the landline side during a "hands-free" call. A new microphone has been developed to address this concern.

NOTE:
Some SC 430 vehicles with Lexus Link already have the improved microphone. Please refer to the inspection procedure to determine if the microphone needs to be replaced.

Applicable Vehicles
^ 2003 model year SC 430 vehicles equipped with Lexus Link*.
*Only when installing the Lexus "Nokia" Integrated Mobile Phone System.

Warranty Information

Applicable warranty*

This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.





Operation Flow Chart

Inspection Procedure

1. Remove the Overhead Module.





A. Use a screwdriver to remove the map light lens as shown in Figure 1.

NOTE:
Tape the screwdriver tip before removing the lens to avoid possible damage to the overhead module.

B. Remove the two screws and lower the overhead module as shown in Figure 1.

C. Disconnect the 10 pin overhead module connector.

2. Check the Microphone.





A. The new microphone has the part number and an arrow printed on each side of the microphone, as shown in Figure 2.

a. If the microphone is the previous part number (no part number or arrow), then replace the microphone (see Removal and Installation Procedures).

b. If the microphone is the new part number (printed part number and arrow) then replacement is not necessary. Reinstall the overhead module.

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the Previous Microphone.





A. Remove the tape on both ends of the wire harness protector and the one that bundles the wire harness together, as shown in Figure 3.

B. Remove the screw, the bracket and the microphone, as shown in Figure 3.

C. Remove the microphone wire terminals from the connector.





a. Use the following SST to raise the retainer up to the temporary lock position as shown in Figure 4.

b. Insert the SST into the connector in the direction shown in Figure 5.

c. Move the locking clip up to the unlock position and hold it there.

NOTE:
^ Do not apply excessive force to the terminal.

^ Do not pry on the terminal with the SST.

d. Carefully withdraw the terminal from the connector by pulling the lead toward the rear of the connector as shown in Figure 5.

NOTE:
Do not use too much force. If the terminal does not come out easily, repeat steps "a" through "d."

Installation Procedure

1. Install the New Microphone.








A. Insert the terminals of the new microphone wire harness into the connector as shown in Figures 6 and 7.

NOTE:
Ensure that the microphone wire harness fully engages into the front personal light connector.





B. Secure the microphone with the original bracket and screw as shown in Figure 8.

NOTE:
Ensure that the microphone is mounted between the two projection tabs as shown in Figure 8.

C. Put the microphone wire harness into the harness protector.





D. Wrap the microphone wire harness with the vinyl tape as shown in Figure 9.

2. Reinstall the Overhead Module.
