Part 1









OVERHAUL





1. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH
a. Remove the nut, washer and control shaft lever RH.





2. REMOVE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY
a. Using a screwdriver, unstake the lock washer.
b. Remove the lock washer, nut and bolt.
c. Remove the park/neutral position switch.





3. REMOVE OIL COOLER TUBE UNION (INLET OIL COOLER UNION)
a. Remove the union.
b. Remove the O-ring from the union.





4. REMOVE OIL COOLER TUBE UNION (OUTLET OIL COOLER UNION)
a. Remove the elbow.
b. Remove the O-ring from elbow.





5. REMOVE SPEED SENSOR
a. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 speed sensors.
b. Remove the O-ring from each one.





6. REMOVE BREATHER PLUG NO.1 (ATM)
a. Remove the breather plug No. 1.





7. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HOUSING
a. Remove the 6 bolts.
b. Remove the transmission housing.
8. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLANGE YOKE ASSY





a. Using a hammer and chisel, loosen the staked part of the nut.

HINT: Shift the manual valve lever to the P position.





b. Using a deeper socket wrench of 30 mm, remove the nut.





c. Remove the flange yoke assy.





9. REMOVE FLANGE YOKE TYPE V OIL SEAL
a. Remove the oil seal from the flange yoke assy.





10. REMOVE EXTENSION (ATM) HOUSING SUB-ASSY
a. Remove the 6 bolts.
b. Remove the extension housing sub-assy.

HINT: Using a brass bar and hammer.

c. Remove the gasket from the extension housing.





11. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EXTENSION HOUSING OIL SEAL
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the oil seal.





12. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EXTENSION HOUSING BEARING
a. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring.
b. Remove the bearing from the extension housing.





13. REMOVE SENSOR ROTOR
a. Remove the 2 washers and vehicle speed sensor rotor from the output shaft.
14. REMOVE 1 WAY NO.2 CLUTCH ASSY





a. Using SST remove the snap ring.
SST 09350-30020 (09350-07070)





b. Remove the one-way No.2 clutch and the retainer.





15. FIX AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE SUB-ASSY
a. Install the transmission case on overhaul attachment.





16. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL PAN SUB-ASSY

NOTICE: Do not turn the transmission over as this will contaminate the valve body with any foreign matter at the bottom of the pan.

a. Remove the drain plug and 19 bolts.
b. Insert the blade of SST between the transmission case and oil pan, cut off applied sealer.
SST 09032-00100

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the oil pan flange.





17. INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL PAN SUB-ASSY
a. Remove the magnets and use them to collect steel particles.
b. Carefully lock at the foreign matter and particles in the pan and on the magnets to anticipate the type of wear you will find in the transmission.
^ Steel (magnetic): bearing, gear and clutch plate wear
^ Brass (non-magnetic): bushing wear





18. REMOVE VALVE BODY OIL STRAINER ASSY
a. Turn over the transmission.
b. Remove the 4 bolts holding the oil strainer assy to the valve body.





19. REMOVE OIL STRAINER GASKET





20. REMOVE OIL STRAINER GASKET NO.2





21. REMOVE OIL STRAINER GASKET NO.1
22. REMOVE TRANSMISSION WIRE
a. Remove the ATF temperature sensor.





b. Remove the bolt and clamp.





c. Disconnect the 7 connectors from the shift solenoid valves.
d. Remove the bolt and stopper plate from the case.
e. Pull the transmission wire out of the transmission case.
f. Remove the O-ring from the grommet.





23. REMOVE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSY
a. Remove the 20 bolts.
b. Remove the valve body assy.





24. REMOVE CHECK BALL BODY
a. Remove the check ball body and spring.
