Air Bag Systems

Repairs and Inspections Required After A Collision


Steering Wheel Pad and Spiral Cable

HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY (VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)




a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following item with the horn button assembly (with airbag) installed in the vehicle. Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assembly top surface and in the grooved portion.

HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED)




a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the horn button assembly (with airbag) removed from the vehicle.
- Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assembly top surface and in the grooved portion.
- Check cuts and cracks in wire harness, and chipping in connectors.
- Check the deformation on the steering wheel.




- Check the deformation on the horn button contact plate of the horn button assembly.

HINT:
- If the horn button contact plate of the horn button assembly is deformed, never repair it. Always replace the horn button assembly with a new one.




- There should be no interference between the horn button assembly and steering wheel, and the clearance should be uniform all the way around when the new horn button assembly is installed on the steering wheel.

CAUTION: For removal and installation of the horn button assembly, and be sure to follow the correct procedure.

HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED)
a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following item with the horn button assembly (with airbag) removed from the vehicle.
Check the damage on the spiral cable connector and wire harness.

HINT: There should be no interference between the horn button assembly and steering wheel, and the clearance should be uniform all the way around when the new horn button assembly is installed on the steering wheel.

Front Passenger Airbag Assembly

INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)




a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following item with the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly installed in the vehicle.
Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly and instrument panel.

INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED)




a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly removed from the vehicle.
- Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly.
- Check cuts and cracks in wire harness, and for chipping in connectors.
- Check the deformation or cracks on the instrument panel and instrument panel reinforcement.






HINT: If the instrument panel or instrument panel reinforcement is deformed or cracked, never repair it. Always replace it with a new one.

CAUTION: For removal and installation of the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly, and be sure to follow the correct procedure.

INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED)
a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly removed from the vehicle.
- Check the deformation or cracks on the instrument panel and instrument panel reinforcement.
- Check the damage on the connector and wire harness.

HINT: If the instrument panel or instrument panel reinforcement is deformed or cracked, never repair it. Always replace it with a new one.

Side Airbag Assembly

FRONT SEAT AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)




a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following item with the seat back assembly installed in the vehicle. Check that there are no cuts or frayed in seams and outside of seatback cover.

FRONT SEAT AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED)




a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the front seat airbag assembly removed from the vehicle.
- Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the front seat airbag assembly.
- Check cuts and cracks in wire harness, and for chipping in connectors.

Airbag Harness

WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)
Do a diagnostic system check. *

WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION)
a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Check breaks in all wires of the SRS wire harness, and exposed conductors.
c. Check to see if the SRS wire harness connectors are cracked or chipped.

HINT: The SRS wire harness is integrated with the instrument panel wire harness assembly. All the connectors in the system are a standard yellow color.

REPLACEMENT

In the following cases, replace the wire harness or connector.
- If any part of the SRS wire harness or any connector has been found to be faulty in troubleshooting.
- If any part of the SRS wire harness or any connector has been found to be faulty during checking items.

CAUTION: If the wire harness used in the SRS is damaged, replace the whole wire harness assembly



Airbag Sensor Assembly

AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)
Do a diagnostic system check.*

AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED)
Do a diagnostic system check.*

AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED)
Replace the airbag sensor assembly center.

Side Airbag Sensor Assembly

SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY (VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)
Do a diagnostic system check. *

SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED)
Do a diagnostic system check. *

SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED)
Replace the side airbag assembly.

Front Airbag Sensor

FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)




Do a diagnostic system check. *

FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION)
a. Do a diagnostic system check. *




b. If the front fender of the car or its periphery is damaged, do a visual check for damage to the front airbag sensor, which includes the following items even if the airbag was not deployed:
- Bracket deformation
- Paint peeling off the bracket
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case
- Cracks, dents, chipping and scratches in the connector
- Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number

Door Side Airbag Sensor

DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)




Do a diagnostic system check. *

Replace the front seat airbag assembly.
