Water Pump: Service and Repair
REPLACEMENT1. SEPARATE BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
2. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSY
3. REMOVE TIMING BELT
4. REMOVE TIMING BELT IDLER SUB-ASSY NO.2
5. REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING
a. Disconnect the water hose and remove the 2 bolts, water inlet housing assembly and ring.
6. CLEAN WATER INLET HOUSING
a. Clean the installing surface.
7. REMOVE WATER PUMP ASSY
8. INSPECT WATER PUMP ASSY
a. Check that there is no leak in the water pump.
b. Check that the water pump pulley rotates smoothly.
If necessary, replace the water pump.
9. CLEAN WATER PUMP ASSY
a. If reusing the water pump, clean the water pump installing surface.
10. INSTALL WATER PUMP ASSY
a. Install a new gasket and the water pump with the 5 bolts, 2 stud bolts and nut.
Torque: 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.)
HINT: The bolt length is 30 mm (1.18 inch).
NOTICE: Uniformly tighten the bolts and nut diagonally.
11. INSTALL WATER INLET HOUSING
a. Install a new O-ring.
b. Apply soapy water to the O-ring.
c. Apply seal packing to the groove of the water inlet housing as shown in the illustration.
Seal packing: Part No. 08826-00100 or equivalent
NOTICE:
^ If applying seal packing, install the part within 5 minutes.
^ Be sure to keep this O-ring away from engine oil, because this O-ring becomes useless if it touches engine oil.
d. Install the water inlet housing with the 2 bolts, then connect the water hose.
HINT: The bolt length is in the illustration.
75 mm (2.95 inch) for bolt A
25 mm (0.98 inch) for bolt B
12. INSTALL TIMING BELT IDLER SUB-ASSY NO.2
13. INSTALL TIMING BELT
14. INSTALL RADIATOR ASSY
15. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
16. CHECK ENGINE COOLANT LEAK
17. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
