Introduction





The Tonneau Cover Retractor Bracket is added to the Tonneau Cover Retractor Holder in order to improve durability on the 2002 model year SC 430.

The Tonneau Cover Retractor Holder and Tonneau Cover Retractor Bracket are now available as separate service parts. If the Tonneau Cover Retractor Holder is damaged, please repair it according to the replacement procedure in this service bulletin.

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Replacement Procedure





1. Remove Tonneau Cover Assembly





A. Remove the 2 covers and 2 nuts (Figure 2).

B. Remove the tonneau cover assembly.

2. Remove Tonneau Cover Retractor Holder RH





Remove the 3 screws and tonneau cover retractor holder RH.

3. Remove Tonneau Cover Retractor Holder LH.

NOTE:
When removing the holder, hold the cover securely so that the holder does not rotate by the spring force.

4. Install Tonneau Cover Retractor Holder LH





A. Rewind the tonneau cover and put it in the tonneau cover case.

B. Fit the holder shaft with the tonneau cover hole and install the holder in the tonneau cover case.





C. Install the bracket to the tonneau cover retractor holder and tighten the 3 screws.

5. Install Tonneau Cover Retractor Holder RH





A. Insert the tip of the shaft into the tonneau cover.





B. Turn the holder twice as shown in Figure 7 and install the holder in the case.





HINT:
If the shaft is pulled off from the holder, fit the holder spring with the shaft slit and press them in.





C. Install the bracket to the tonneau cover retractor holder and tighten the 3 screws (Figure 9).





D. Check that the tonneau cover can be taken in and out smoothly.

6. Install Tonneau Cover Assembly





A. Hook the claw of the bracket on the luggage compartment trim cover inner lower and install the tonneau cover with the 2 nuts.

B. Install the 2 covers.
