Ball Joint: Service and Repair






REMOVAL
1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
2. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END FROM LOWER BALL JOINT
a. Remove the clip and nut from the tie rod end.
Torque: 59 Nm (600 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.)





b. Using SST, disconnect the tie rod end from the lower ball joint.

3. DISCONNECT LOWER BALL JOINT FROM STEERING KNUCKLE
Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.
Torque: 113 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.)
4. REMOVE LOWER BALL JOINT FROM LOWER SUSPENSION ARM
a. Remove the clip and nut.
Torque: 162 Nm (1,645 kgf-cm, 119 ft. lbs.)





b. Using SST, disconnect the lower ball joint from the lower suspension arm.

c. Remove the lower ball joint from lower suspension arm.

INSPECTION
INSPECT BALL JOINT FOR ROTATION CONDITION





a. Flip the ball joint stud back and 4 - 5 times before installing the nut.
b. Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously one turn every 3 - 5 seconds and take the torque reading on the 5th turn.
Torque (turning): 0.5 - 3.5 Nm (5 - 36 kgf-cm, 4.5 - 31 inch lbs.)

INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

HINT: After installation, check the front wheel alignment.
