Engine Control System
P0500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor MalfunctionCIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
DTC Detecting Condition:
The vehicle speed sensor detects the rotation speed of the transmission output shaft and sends signals to the ECM. The ECM determines the vehicle speed based on these signals. An AC voltage is generated in the vehicle speed sensor coil as the rotor mounted on the output shaft rotates, and this voltage is sent to the ECM.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT: Read freeze frame data using LEXUS hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool. Because freeze frame records the engine conditions when the malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, it is useful for determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, the engine was warmed up or not, the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, etc. at the time of the malfunction.
