Removal and Installation
COMPONENTS
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
2. REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE
Torque: 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
3. REMOVE COTTER PIN, LOCK CAP AND LOCK NUT
Torque: 289 Nm (2,950 kgf-cm, 213 ft. lbs.)
4. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT
a. Remove the 2 bolts and rear suspension member brace.
Torque: 50 Nm (510 kgf-cm, 37 ft. lbs.)
b. Place matchmarks on the drive shaft and side gear shaft.
NOTICE: Do not use a punch to mark the matchmarks. Use paint etc.
c. SC400: Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the 6 hexagon bolts and 2 washers while depressing the brake pedal.
Torque: 83 Nm (850 kgf-cm, 61 ft. lbs.)
HINT: At the time of installation, coat the bolt's threads with engine oil.
d. SC300: Using a 8 mm hexagon wrench, remove the 6 hexagon bolts and 3 washers while depressing the brake pedal.
Torque: 68 Nm (695 kgf-cm, 50 ft. lbs.)
HINT: At the time of installation, coat the bolt's threads with engine oil.
e. Hold the inboard joint side of the drive shaft so that the outboard joint side does not bend too much.
f. Using a plastic hammer, lightly tap the end of the drive shaft, disengage the axle hub, and remove the drive shaft.
NOTICE:
- Be careful not to damage the boots, end cover, speed sensor rotor of the drive shaft and oil seal of the axle hub.
- Make sure the outboard joint side of the drive shaft does not bend too much.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
AFTER INSTALLATION, CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL.
