Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair


REPLACEMENT

1. REMOVE TWC
(a) Check that the converter is cool.





(b) Remove the 4 bolts holding the pipe support bracket to the transmission.
(c) Remove the 4 bolts holding the front exhaust pipe to TWC, 2 bracket and remove the pipe support bracket.
(d) Disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the TWC, and remove the 2 gaskets.
(e) Remove the 3 nuts, TWC and gasket. Remove the 2 TWC.
2. REINSTALL TWC
(a) Using a 14 mm deep socket wrench, install a new gasket and the TWC with 3 new nuts. Install the 2 TWC.

Torque: 62 N.m (630 kgf.cm, 46 ft.lbf)

(b) Temporarily install the pipe support bracket to the transmission with the 4 bolts.
(c) Install a new gasket to each front end of the front exhaust pipe.
(d) Connect the front exhaust pipe to the 2 TWC with the 4 bolts and new 2 brackets.

Torque: 43 N.m (440 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf)

(e) Tighten the 4 bolts holding the pipe support bracket to the transmission.

Torque: 43 N.m (440 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf)
