Removal and Installation
1. Remove the front wheel.
NOTE: When installing the front wheels, tighten them down to 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.).
2. Check the bearing backlash and axle hub deviation by performing the following procedures.
a. Remove the two bolts, brake caliper and disc.
b. Support the brake caliper securely.
c. Using a dial indicator near the center of the axle hub, check the backlash in the bearing shaft direction. The maximum backlash should be 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch). If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the bearing.
d. Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt. The maximum deviation should be 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch). If the deviation exceeds the maximum, replace the bearing.
e. Install the disc, two bolts and brake caliper, tightening the bolts to 107 Nm (79 ft. lbs.).
3. Remove the drive shaft lock nut, performing the following.
a. Remove the cotter pin and lock cap.
b. While applying the brakes, remove the nut.
NOTE: When installing the nut, tighten it to 294 Nm (217 ft. lbs.).
c. Remove the brake caliper and disc.
4. Remove the ABS speed sensor and wire harness clamp.
NOTE: When installing the clamp, tighten it to 7.8 Nm (69 inch lbs.).
5. Loosen the two nuts on lower side of shock absorber.
NOTE:
^ Do not remove the bolts.
Installation Hint
^ Coat the nut's thread with engine oil.
^ When installing the nuts, tighten them to 211 Nm (156 ft. lbs.).
6. Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle after performing the following.
a. Remove the cotter pin and nut.
NOTE: When installing the nut, tighten it to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.).
b. Using the 09610-20012 SST, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
7. Disconnect the lower ball joint from lower arm after first removing the two nuts and bolt.
NOTE: When installing the nuts and bolts, tighten them to 127 Nm (94 ft. lbs.).
8. Remove the steering knuckle with the axle hub by performing the following.
a. Remove the two bolts on the lower side of the shock absorber.
b. Remove the steering knuckle with the axle hub.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the oil seal with drive shaft.
9. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE: After installation, check the ABS speed sensor signal and front wheel alignment.
