Overhaul

DISASSEMBLY
1. Separate propeller shaft and intermediate shaft, as follows:



a. Place matchmarks on the flanges.
b. Remove the four nuts, washers and blots.

2. Remove center support bearing from intermediate shaft, as follows:
a. Using a chisel and hammer, loosen the staked part of the nut.



b. Using Special Service Tool (SST) 09930-00021 or equivalent, to hold the flange, remove the nut.

INSTALLATION NOTE:
Torque (new nut): 181 Nm (134 ft. lbs.).
Loosen the nut.
Re-torque: 69 Nm (51 ft. lbs.).




c. Place matchmarks on the flange and intermediate shaft.
d. Remove the flange and center support bearing from the intermediate shaft.

INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AND PROPELLER SHAFT RUNOUT INSPECTION AND SPIDER INSPECTION




1. Inspect intermediate shaft and propeller shaft runout. Using a dial indicator, measure the runout of shafts.
Maximum runout: 0.8 mm (0.031 inch).
If the runout is greater than the maximum, replace the propeller shaft assembly.




2. Inspect spider bearing.
- Check if the spider bearing rotates smoothly.
- Check if there is any play in the spider bearing.
If necessary, replace the propeller shaft assembly.

PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
Assembly is in the reverse order of disassembly.
