Upper
REMOVAL
1. Remove front wheel.
Torque: 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.).
2. Remove front brake caliper and disc, as follows:
a. Remove the two bolts and brake caliper from the steering knuckle.
Torque: 118 Nm (87 ft. lbs.).
b. Support the brake caliper securely.
3. Remove front fender splash shield.
4. Left hand side only: Move the washer tank, as follows:
a. Remove the two washer tank set bolts.
b. Move the washer tank away from the body.
5. Remove the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) speed sensor and the wire harness clamp, as follows:
a. Remove the bolt, and disconnect the speed sensor from the steering knuckle.
Torque: 7.8 Nm (69 Inch Lbs.).
b. Remove the three bolts and wire harness clamp to prevent the wire harness being damaged when removing or installing the through bolt of the upper suspension arm.
6. Remove upper suspension arm, as follows:
a. Remove the cotter pin and nut.
Torque: 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.).
b. Using Special Service Tool (SST) 09628 - 62011 or equivalent, disconnect the upper suspension arm from the steering knuckle.
c. Remove the nut, two washers and bolt.
Torque: 164 Nm (121 ft. lbs.).
INSTALLATION NOTE: After stabilizing the suspension, torque the nut.
d. Remove the upper suspension arm.
UPPER BALL JOINT INSPECTION
1. Inspect the ball joint for rotation condition, as follows:
a. As shown, flip the ball joint stud back and forth five times, before installing the nut.
b. Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously one turn each 2 - 4 seconds and take the torque reading on the fifth turn.
Turning torque: 1.0 - 3.5 Nm (9 - 31 inch lbs.).
BUSHING REPLACEMENT
1. Remove bushing. Using SST 09223 - 00010 or equivalent, and a deep socket wrench, remove the bushing.
2. Using SST 09223 - 00010 or equivalent, and a deep socket wrench, install a new bushing.
NOTICE: Do not apply grease or oil to the bushing.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE: After installation, check the ABS speed sensor signal and front wheel alignment.
