Ignition Cable: Testing and Inspection
HIGH-TENSION CORDS INSPECTION
1. DISCONNECT CONTROL CABLES FROM THROTTLE BODY
2. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
3. DISCONNECT THROTTLE BODY BRACKET FROM THROTTLE BODY AND CYLINDER HEAD
Remove the 4 nuts and disconnect the throttle body bracket from the throttle body and cylinder head.
4. DISCONNECT THROTTLE BODY FROM INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR WITHOUT DISCONNECTING WATER BYPASS HOSES
(a) Disconnect these connectors and hoses:
(1) Throttle position sensor connector
(2) w/TRAC:
Sub-throttle position sensor connector
(3) w/ TRAC:
Sub-throttle actuator connector
(4) IAC valve connector
(5) 4 vacuum hoses
(6) Air hose (from intake manifold)
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
(c) Disconnect the 2 water bypass hoses from the clamps on the oil filter bracket and engine hanger.
(d) Slightly slide the throttle body away from the intake air connector.
5. REMOVE NO.3 TIMING BELT COVER
6. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD REAR COVER
7. DISCONNECT HIGH-TENSION CORDS FROM SPARK PLUGS AND IGNITION COIL
Disconnect the high-tension cords at the rubber boot.
Do not pull on the high-tension cords.
NOTICE: Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the conductor inside.
8. REMOVE DISTRIBUTOR CAP WITHOUT DISCONNECTING HIGH-TENSION CORDS
9. INSPECT HIGH-TENSION CORD RESISTANCE
Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance without disconnecting the distributor cap.
Maximum resistance: 25 k Ohms per cord
If the resistance is greater than maximum, check the terminals.
If necessary, replace the high-tension cord and/or distributor cap.
10. REINSTALL DISTRIBUTOR CAP
11. RECONNECT HIGH-TENSION CORDS TO SPARK PLUGS AND IGNITION COIL
12. REINSTALL CYLINDER HEAD REAR COVER
13. REINSTALL NO.3 TIMING BELT COVER
14. REINSTALL THROTTLE BODY TO INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR
Torque: 21 N.m (210 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)
15. REINSTALL THROTTLE BODY BRACKET
Torque: 21 N.m (210 kgf.cm. 15 ft.lbf)
16. REINSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
17. RECONNECT CONTROL CABLES TO THROTTLE BODY
