Engine Oil Pressure: Testing and Inspection

1. Check oil quality.

NOTE:
- Check the oil for deterioration, entry of water, discoloring or thinning.
- If oil quality is visibly poor, replace the oil.

- Specifications:
Oil grade: API grade SH, Energy-Conserving II multigrade or ILSAC multigrade.
Recommended viscosity: SAE 5W-30 being the preferred engine oil.
2. Check engine oil level.
- The oil level should be between the low level and full level marks on the dipstick.
- If low, check for the leakage and add oil up to full level mark.
3. Remove engine under cover.

4. Loosen the drive belt tension by turning the drive belt tensioner clockwise, and remove the drive belt.

5. Disconnect A/C compressor from engine as follows:
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and nut.
(b) Using a torx socket (E10), remove the stud bolt.
(c) Disconnect the compressor connector.
(d) Remove 4 bolts and pull the compressor downward.

6. Remove oil pressure switch, and install oil pressure gauge
(a) Disconnect the oil pressure switch connector.
(b) Using Special Service Tool (SST) oil pressure switch socket tool No. 09816-30010, or equivalent, remove the oil pressure switch.

(c) Install a suitable oil pressure gauge.
7. Reinstall A/C compressor as follows:
(a) Install the A/C compressor with the 4 bolts hand tight.
(b) Connect the compressor electrical connector.
(c) Install the stud bolt.
(d) Tighten the stud bolt to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).
(e) Tighten the bolts and nuts 52 Nm (38 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the drive belt by turning the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
9. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
10. Check oil pressure.
Oil pressure specifications:
At idle 49 kPa (7.1 psi) or more.
At 3,000 RPM 324-579 kPa (47-84 psi).
11. Remove drive belt as noted above.
12. Disconnect A/C compressor from engine as noted above.
13. Remove oil pressure gauge and reinstall oil pressure switch, noting the following:

(a) Tighten the union nut to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
(b) Apply LOCTITE 242, or equivalent, adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the oil pressure switch.
(c) Using SST oil pressure switch socket and a suitable torque wrench, install the oil pressure switch and tighten to 14 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
(d) Connect the compressor electrical connector.
14. Reinstall A/C compressor as noted above.
15. Reinstall drive belt as noted above.
16. Start engine and check for leaks.
17. Reinstall engine under cover.
