On-Vehicle Repair

REMOVAL
1. Drain automatic transmission fluid (ATF).
2. Remove front exhaust pipe.
3. Remove oil pan, as follows:





a. Remove the 19 bolts.
Torque: 7.4 Nm (65 inch lbs.).





b. Install the blade of Special Service Tool (SST) 09032-00100 or equivalent, between the transmission case and oil pan, cut off applied sealer.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the oil pan flange.

INSTALLATION NOTE:
- Remove any FIPG material and be careful not to drop oil on the contacting surfaces of the transmission case and oil pan.





- Apply FIPG to the oil pan, as shown in the illustration.
FIPG: THREE BOND 1281 or equivalent.





4. Examine particles in pan. Remove the magnets and use them to collect steel particles. Carefully look at the foreign matter and particles in the pan and on the magnets to anticipate the type of wear you will find in the transmission:
Steel (magnetic): bearing, gear and clutch plate wear
Brass (non-magnetic): bushing wear.





5. Remove oil strainer. Remove the three bolts holding the oil strainer to the valve body.
Torque: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs.).
6. Remove solenoid wiring, as follows:
a. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ATF temperature sensor.





b. Remove the two bolts and clamp.
c. Disconnect the four connectors from the solenoid valves.
7. Remove solenoid valve, as follows:





a. Remove the shift solenoid valve No. 1 and No. 2.
b. Remove the O-rings from the shift solenoid valves No. 1 and No. 2.
c. Remove the lock plate, shift solenoid valve SLN and SLU.





8. Remove throttle cable. Disconnect the throttle cable from the cam.
9. Remove valve body, as follows:
a. Remove the 20 bolts and valve body.
Torque: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs.).





INSTALLATION NOTE: Each bolt length is indicated below.
Bolt length:
Bolt A: 29 mm (1.14 inch).
Bolt B: 34 mm (1.34 inch).
Bolt C: 42 mm (1.65 inch).





- Align the groove of the manual valve to the pin of the lever.





b. Remove the check ball body and spring.

NOTICE: Do not drop the check ball body and spring.

INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

NOTE: After installation, fill Automatic Transmission fluid (ATF) and check fluid level.
