Lower Ball Joint
REMOVAL
1. Remove front wheel.
Installation Hint: Torque to 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.)
2. Remove front brake caliper.
a. Remove the 2 bolts and brake caliper.
Installation Hint: Torque to 118 Nm (87 ft. lbs.)
b. Support the brake caliper securely.
3. Disconnect ABS speed sensor and wire harness. Remove the 2 bolts, ABS speed sensor and wire harness.
NOTICE: Do not disconnect the RH pad wear indicator connector.
Installation Hint: Torque to 7.8 Nm (69 inch lbs.)
4. Disconnect tie rod end from lower ball joint.
5. Disconnect lower ball joint from lower suspension arm.
6. Remove lower ball joint from steering knuckle. Remove the 2 bolts and lower ball joint.
Installation Hint: Torque to 113 Nm (83 ft. lbs.)
INSPECTION
^ Inspect ball joint for rotation condition.
a. Flip the ball joint stud back and 4 - 5 times before installing the nut.
b. Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously one turn every 2 - 4 seconds and take the torque reading on the 5th turn. Turning torque is 1.0 - 2.5 Nm (1 - 21.7 inch lbs.)
INSTALLATION
^ Installation is in the reverse order of removal being sure to check ABS speed sensor signal and wheel alignment.
