Side Airbag

INSPECTION ITEMS

Vehicles Not Involved In Collision:




1. VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. With the side airbag assembly installed in the vehicle, do a visual check which includes the following items.
^ Check that there is no cuts or frayed on sewing shown in the illustration.

Vehicles Involved In Collision:




2. VEHICLES INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check.

IF AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
With the side airbag assembly removed in the vehicle, do a visual check which includes the following items.
^ Check for cuts and cracks in, or marked discoloration of, the side airbag assembly.
^ Check for cuts and cracks in wire harnesses, and for chipping in connectors.

IF AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED
With the side airbag assembly removed from the vehicle, do a visual check which includes the following items.
^ Check the side airbag installation part of the seat frame.
^ Check for damage to the connector and wire harness.

HINT:
^ If the seat frame is deformed, never repair. Always replace it with new ones.

CAUTION: For removal and installation of the side airbag assembly, be sure to follow the correct procedure.

REPLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS
In the following cases, replace the side airbag assembly or seat cover.
^ If the side airbag has been deployed.
^ If the side airbag assembly has been found to be faulty in troubleshooting.
^ Replace the seat cover, if it has cuts and frayed during checking of item 1-(b).
^ Exchange the parts if faulty is found during checking of item 2-(b).
^ If the side airbag assembly has been dropped.

CAUTION: For removal and installation of the side airbag assembly, be sure to follow the correct procedure.
