Expansion Valve: Service and Repair

EXPANSION VALVE REMOVAL
1. REMOVE BLOWER UNIT
2. DISCHARGE REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

INSTALLATION HINT: Evacuate air from refrigeration system.

Charge system with refrigerant and inspect for leakage of refrigerant.
Specified amount:
700 ± 50 g (29.69 ± 1.76 oz.)

3. DISCONNECT LIQUID AND SUCTION TUBES FROM A/C UNIT





4. REMOVE LIQUID AND SUCTION TUBES FROM EVAPORATOR
Using a hexagon wrench, remove the 3 bolts and separate the evaporator and tube.
Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf)

INSTALLATION HINT: Lubricate a new O-ring with compressor oil and install the tube.

5. REMOVE PRESSURE REGULATOR VALVE
Using a hexagon wrench, remove the bolt and separate the valve and tube.
Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf)

INSTALLATION HINT: Lubricate a new O-ring with compressor oil and install the tube.





6. REMOVE EXPANSION VALVE
a. Remove the packing and thermistor holder.
b. Loosen the 2 union nuts and remove expansion valve.
Torque:
19 mm nut: 14 N.m (140 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf)
24 mm nut: 32 N.m (330 kgf.cm, 24 ft.lbf)

INSTALLATION HINT: Lubricate 2 new O-rings with compressor oil and install the tubes.

EXPANSION VALVE INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
