Components For Water Pump Removal And Installation (Part 5 Of 5):

1. Remove any old packing (FIPG) material from the water pump and block as follows:

NOTE: Be careful not to drop any oil on the contact surfaces of the water pump and cylinder block.

(a) Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old packing (FIPG) material from the gasket surfaces and sealing groove.
(b) Thoroughly clean all components to remove all the loose material.
(c) Using a non-residue solvent, clean both sealing surfaces.

2. Using a nozzle that has been cut to a 2-3 mm (0.08-0.12 in) opening, apply seal packing part No. 08826-00100, or equivalent, to the water pump as shown in the illustration.

NOTE:
^ Parts must be assembled within five minutes of application. Otherwise the material must be removed and reapplied.
^ Immediately remove nozzle from the tube and reinstall cap.

3. Install a new O-ring to the water bypass pipe end.
4. Apply soapy water to the O-ring.
5. Connect the water pump to the water bypass pipe end.
6. Install the water pump with the five bolts, two stud bolts and nut, then tighten the bolts, stud bolts and nut in several passes to 18 Nm (185 kg.cm, 13 ft.lb).
NOTE: Use bolts 30 mm (1.18 in) in length.

7. Remove any old packing (FIPG) material from the water inlet and inlet housing assembly as follows:

NOTE: Be careful not to drop any oil on the contact surfaces of the water inlet housing and water pump.

(a) Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old packing (FIPG) material from the gasket surfaces and soaring groove.
(b) Thoroughly clean all components to remove all the loose material.
(c) Using a non-residue solvent, clean both sealing surfaces.

8. Using a nozzle that has been cut to a 2-3 mm (0.08-0.12 inch)opening, apply seal packing part No. 08826-00100, or equivalent, to the sealing groove of water inlet housing as shown in the illustration.

NOTE:
^ Parts must be assembled within five minutes of application. Otherwise the material must be removed and reapplied.
^ Immediately remove nozzle from the tube and reinstall cap.

9. Install a new O-ring to the water inlet housing.
10. Apply soapy water on the O-ring.
11. Push the water inlet housing end into the water pump hole.

12. Connect the water bypass hose (from the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve) to the water inlet housing.
13. Install the water inlet and housing assembly with the two bolts, then alternately tighten the bolts to 18 Nm (185 kg.cm, 13 ft.lb).
NOTE: Use bolts 25 mm (0.98 in) in length.

14. Install the No.2 ignition coil with the two bolts and stud bolt.
15. Connect the ignition coil connector.
16. Connect the high-tension cord (spark wire).
17. Install No.2 idler pulley.
