Components For Engine Removal And Installation (Part 2 0f 3):
1. Remove hood.
2. Remove oil pan protector.
3. Remove engine under cover.
4. Drain engine coolant.
5. Drain engine oil.
6. Remove battery clamp cover.
7. Remove air cleaner inlet.
8. Remove air cleaner and intake air connector assembly.
9. Remove battery
10. Remove drive belt, fan fluid coupling and fan pulley as follows:
(a) Remove V-bank cover bolt and two cap nuts then the V-bank cover.
(b) Loosen the four nuts holding the fluid coupling to the fan bracket.
(c) Remove the drive belt.
(d) Remove the four nuts, the fan, fluid coupling assembly and fan pulley.
11. Disconnect the following control cables to throttle body:
- Disconnect these cables:
- Accelerator cable.
- A/T throttle cable.
- Cruise control actuator cable.
12. Remove radiator assembly as follows:
(a) Disconnect these hoses from the radiator:
- Upper radiator hose.
- Lower radiator hose.
- The two A/T oil cooler hoses.
(b) Remove No.2 fan shroud as follows:
- Remove the two clips.
- Disconnect the claw of the No.2 fan shroud from the hook of the No.1 fan shroud, and remove the No.2 fan shroud.
(c) Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) switch connector for the A/C cooling fan.
(d) Disconnect the upper sides of the RH and LH cool air ducts.
(e) Remove the nut and upper radiator support.
(f) Remove the two upper radiator supports, then lift out the radiator assembly.
13. Disconnect the following connectors, wire, straps, clamps and hoses:
- Engine oil level sensor connector.
- Generator connector.
- Generator wire.
- Engine wire clamp from bracket on generator.
- 2 igniter connectors.
- Remove the igniter cover, and disconnect the two igniter connectors.
- Engine wire clamp from igniter bracket.
- Ground strap from RH engine mounting bracket.
- Ground strap from under of the LH fender apron.
- Engine wire clamp from cowl panel.
- Radiator reservoir hose from water bypass pipe.
- Brake booster vacuum hose from air intake chamber.
- Heater hose from heater water valve.
- Heater hose from water bypass pipe.
- Fuel inlet hose from fuel inlet pipe.
- Fuel return hose from return pipe.
- PS air hose from air intake chamber.
- 2 Power Steering (PS) air hoses from clamp on RH No.3 timing belt cover.
- 2 EVAP hoses from pipes (from charcoal canister).
14. Disconnect engine wire from cabin as follows:
(a) Remove these parts:
- Under cover.
- Glove compartment.
(b) Disconnect these connectors:
- The three Engine Control Module (ECM) connectors.
- 2 cowl wire connectors from connector on bracket.
- Engine wire clamp from bracket.
(c) Disconnect the grommet from the cowl panel, and pull out the engine wire.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the engine wire.
15. Disconnect PS oil cooler pipe from oil pan.
16. Disconnect the two Heated Oxygen Sensors (H2OS) wire grommets from the floor panel, then remove the two oxygen sensors from the exhaust pipe.
17. Remove front exhaust pipe as follows:
(a) Loosen the clamp bolt holding the front exhaust pipe to the center exhaust pipe.
(b) Remove the four bolts and four nuts holding the front exhaust pipe to the front Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC).
(c) Remove the front exhaust pipe and three gaskets
(d) Remove the two bolts and pipe support bracket.
18. Remove the three nuts, TWC and gasket for both sides.
19. Loosen the two clamp bolts, and disconnect the center exhaust pipe from the tailpipes, then the exhaust pipe from the two rings on the body brackets and remove the center exhaust pipe.
20. Remove heat insulator for rear side of front exhaust pipe.
21. Remove front and rear center floor crossmember braces.
22. Remove propeller shaft, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
23. Disconnect A/C compressor from engine as follows:
(a) Disconnect the A/C compressor connector.
(b) Disconnect the wire clamp from the wire bracket of the A/C compressor.
(c) Remove the bolt, and disconnect the ground cable from the A/C compressor stay.
(d) Remove the bolt, nut and A/C compressor stay.
(e) Remove the bolt, and disconnect the wire bracket from the A/C compressor.
(f) Remove the bolt, and disconnect the A/C compressor from the engine.
24. Remove the three bolts and nut, and disconnect the PS pump from the engine.
25. Remove heat insulators for front side of front exhaust pipe.
26. Remove engine and transmission assembly from vehicle as follows:
(a) Remove the two nuts, and disconnect the heater water valve from the cowl panel.
(b) Attach the engine chain hoist to the engine hangers.
(c) Remove the two nuts holding the engine mounting insulators to the front suspension crossmember.
(d) Remove the nut, and disconnect the transmission control rod from the shift lever.
(e) Remove the four bolts, four nuts and rear engine mounting member.
(f) Lift the engine out of the vehicle slowly and carefully.
NOTE:
- Make sure the engine is clear of all wiring, hoses and cables.
- Be careful not hit the PS gear housing and Park Neutral Position (PNP) switch.
(g) Place the engine and transmission assembly onto a suitable stand.
