Components For Engine Removal And Installation (Part 2 0f 3):









1. Install engine and transmission assembly in vehicle as follows:






(a) Attach the engine chain hoist to the engine hangers.
(b) Slowly lower the engine and transmission assembly into the engine compartment.

NOTE: Be careful not to hit the Power Steering (PS) gear housing and Park Neutral Position (PNP) switch.

(c) Insert the stud bolts of the front engine mounting brackets into the stud bolt holes of the front suspension crossmember.
(d) Keep the engine level.






(e) Install the rear engine mounting member with the four bolts and four nuts, tighten as follows:
Bolt: 25 Nm (250 kg. cm, 19 ft.lb).
Nut: 13.5 Nm (135 kg.cm, 10 ft.lb).

NOTE: Be careful of installation direction.

(f) Connect the transmission control rod to the shift lever with the nut, tighten to 13 Nm (130 kg.cm, 115 in. lbs.).






(g) Install the two nuts holding the engine mounting brackets to the front suspension crossmember, then tighten to 70 Nm (700 kg.cm, 52 ft.lb).

(h) Remove the engine chain hoist.
(i) Install the heater water valve with the two nuts.
2. Install heat insulators for front side of front exhaust pipe.
3. install A/C compressor as follows:






(a) Install the A/C compressor, compressor stay and wire bracket with the three bolts and nut, then tighten as follows:
Bolt: 49 Nm (500 kg.cm, 36 ft.lb).
Nut: 29 Nm (300 kg.cm, 22 ft.lb).
(b) Connect the ground cable to the compressor stay with the bolt.
(c) Install the wire clamp to the bracket on the A/C compressor.
(d) Connect the A/C compressor connector.





4. Install PS pump with the three bolts and nut, alternately tighten the bolts and nut using the following torques:
Bolt: 39 Nm (400 kg.cm, 29 ft.lb).
Nut: 43 Nm (440 kg.cm, 32 ft.lb).
5. Install propeller shaft, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
6. Install front center floor crossmember brace, tighten to 13 Nm (130 kg.cm, 9 ft.lb).
7. Install heat insulator for rear side of front exhaust pipe.
8. Install center exhaust pipe as follows:






(a) Install the center exhaust pipe to the rings on the body brackets.
(b) Connect the center exhaust pipe to the tailpipes.






9. Install front Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) with new gasket and three new nuts, tighten to 61.8 Nm (630 kg.cm, 46 ft.lb).
10. Install front exhaust pipe as follows:






(a) Temporarily install the pipe support bracket with the two bolts.
(b) Install two new gaskets to the front of the front exhaust pipe.
(c) Install a new gasket to the rear of the front exhaust pipe.
(d) Temporarily connect the front exhaust pipe to the center exhaust pipe.
(e) Install the front exhaust pipe to the front TWC with four new nuts and the four bolts.





NOTE:
- Install a new gasket to the exhaust pipe in the correct direction.
- Fit together the clamp protrusion and pipe hollow, and tighten the clamp bolt until A and B of the clamp are just touching.

- Tighten to 44 Nm (440 kg.cm, 32 ft.lb).
(f) Tighten the clamp bolt holding the front exhaust pipe to the center exhaust pipe, then tighten the four bolts holding the pipe support bracket to the transmission to 44 Nm (440 kg.cm, 32 ft.lb).






11. Install the two heated oxygen sensors to the front exhaust pipes, tighten to 44 Nm (450 kg. cm, 33 ft.lb).

NOTE: Before installing the oxygen sensor, twist the sensor wire counterclockwise three and 1/2 turns. After installing the oxygen sensor, check that the sensor wire is not twisted. If it is twisted, remove the oxygen sensor and reinstall it.

12. Install PS oil cooler pipe.
13. Connect engine wiring to cabin as follows:






(a) Push in the engine wire through the cowl panel, then install the grommet.
(b) Connect these connectors:
- 3 ECM connectors two engine wire connectors to connector on bracket
- Engine wire clamp to bracket
(c) Install these parts:
- Glove compartment
- Under cover
14. Connect the following connectors, wire, straps, clamps and hoses:
- Engine oil level sensor connector
- Generator connector
- Generator wire
- Engine wire clamp to bracket on generator
- 2 igniter connectors
- Connect the two igniter connectors, and install the igniter cover.






NOTE: Connect the white taped connector to the igniter on the upper side.

- Engine wire clamp to igniter bracket.
- Ground strap to RH engine mounting bracket.
- Ground strap to under of the LH fender apron.
- Engine wire clamp to bracket on cowl panel.
- Radiator reservoir hose to water bypass pipe.
- Brake booster vacuum hose to air intake chamber.
- Heater hose to heater water valve.
- Heater hose to water bypass pipe.
- Fuel inlet hose to fuel inlet pipe, refer to Powertrain Management.
- Fuel return hose to return pipe.
- PS air hose to air intake chamber.
- 2 PS air hoses to clamp on RH No.3 timing belt cover.
- 2 EVAP hoses to pipes (from charcoal canister).

15. Install radiator assembly as follows:






(a) Install the two lower radiator supports to the radiator.
(b) Place the radiator assembly on the body bracket.






(c) Install the radiator with the two upper radiator supports and two nuts, tighten to 13.5 Nm (135 kg.cm, 10 ft.lb).
(d) Install the upper sides of the RH and LH cool air ducts.
(e) Connect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) switch connector for the A/C cooling fan.







NOTE: After installation, check that the rubber cushion (A) of the support is depressed.






(f) Connect the claw of the No.2 fan shroud to the hook of the No.1 fan shroud.
(g) Install the No.2 fan shroud with the two clips.
(h) Connect the following hoses to radiator:
- Connect these hoses to the radiator:
- Upper radiator hose.
- Lower radiator hose.
- 2 A/T oil cooler hoses.



16. Install battery.
17. Connect the following control cables to throttle body:
- Accelerator cable.
- A/T throttle cable.
- Cruise control actuator cable.

18. Install fan pulley, fan, fluid coupling and drive belt as follows:






(a) Install the fan pulley, the fan, fluid coupling assembly with the four nuts hand tight.
(b) Install the drive belt.
(c) Tighten the four nuts holding the fluid coupling to the fan bracket to 21 Nm (215 kg.cm, 16 ft.lb).

19. Install air cleaner and intake air connector assembly.
20. Install air cleaner inlet.
21. Install battery clamp cover.
22. Fill with engine coolant.
23. Fill with engine oil.
24. Start engine and check for leaks.
25. Install engine under cover.
26. Install oil pan protector.
27. Install hood.
28. Perform road test, check for abnormal noise, shock, slippage, correct shift points and smooth operation.
29. Recheck engine coolant and oil levels.
