Valve Guide: Service and Repair

REMOVAL






1. Gradually heat the cylinder head to 80-100°C (176-212°F).






2. Using valve guide bushing driver Special Service Tool (SST) 09201-10000, or equivalent, and a suitable hammer, tap out the guide bushing.






INSTALLATION
1. Using a caliper gauge, measure the bushing bore diameter of the cylinder head.






2. Using the illustrated table, select a new guide bushing (STD or O/S 0.05) as follows:
(a If the bushing bore diameter of the cylinder head is greater than 11.012 mm (0.4335 in), machine the bushing bore to the following dimension: 11.035-11.062 mm (0.4344-0.4355 in).
(b) If the bushing bore diameter of the cylinder head is greater than 11.062 mm (0.4355 in), replace the cylinder head.






NOTE: Different bushings are used for the intake and exhaust as shown in the illustration.

3. Gradually heat the cylinder head to 80-100°C (176-212°F).






4. Using SST valve guide bushing driver and a hammer, tap in a new guide bushing until there is 10.500-11.100 mm (0.4130-0.4370 inch) protruding from the cylinder head.






5. Using a sharp 6 mm reamer, ream the guide bushing to obtain the standard specified clearance between the guide bushing and valve stem.
