Parking Brake Shoe: Testing and Inspection
Measuring Shoe Lining Thickness, Using A Ruler:
LINING THICKNESS
Measure Brake Shoe lining thickness.
1. Using a ruler, measure the thickness of the shoe lining.
^ Standard thickness: 2.5 mm (0.098 inch)
^ Minimum thickness: 1.0 mm (0.039 inch)
2. If the lining thickness is at the minimum thickness or less, or if there is severe, uneven wear, replace the brake shoe.
Measuring Clearance Between Parking Brake Shoe And Lever, Using A Feeler Gauge:
Shoe To Drum Clearance
Measure clearance between Parking Brake Shoe and lever.
1. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance.
^ Standard clearance: Less than 0.35 mm (0.0138 inch)
2. If the clearance is not within the specification, replace the shim with one of the correct size.

Shim Replacement
1. Using a screwdriver, remove the C-washer.
2. Remove the Parking Brake Lever, and install the correct size shim.
3. Install the Parking Brake Lever with a new C-washer.
4. Remeasure the clearance.
