Rear
REMOVAL
1. When removing the rear shock, remove these parts. Remove the rear seat cushion and seatback, the package tray trim, the high mount stop light, and the belt hole cover and rear seat belt.
2. Remove the rear wheel.
NOTE: When installing the rear wheel, tighten it down to 103 Nm (76 ft.lbs.).
3. Remove the flexible hose and the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp from shock absorber after removing the two bolts, brake hose bracket and the ABS wire harness clamp.
NOTE: When installing the ABS speed sensor, tighten the flexible hose to 29 Nm (22 ft.lbs.) and the ABS wire to 5.4 Nm (48 in.lbs.).
4. Disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the shock absorber.
5. Loosen the two nuts on lower side of shock absorber and do the following.
a. Loosen the two nuts on the lower side of the shock absorber.
Installation Hints
^ Coat the nut's threads with engine oil, and tighten the bolts as specified.
^ Reused Nut: 196 Nm (145 ft.lbs.).
^ New Nut: 255 Nm (188 ft.lbs.).
b. Support the rear axle carrier with a jack.
6. If the vehicle came w/o the electronic modulated suspension, remove the shock absorber with the coil spring after performing the following.
a. Remove the cap.
b. Loosen the nut in the middle of the suspension support.
NOTE:
^ Do not remove the nut.
^ When tightening the nut, tighten it to 49 Nm (36 ft.lbs.).
c. Remove the three nuts of the suspension support.
NOTE: When installing the nuts, tighten the nuts to 39 Nm (29 ft.lbs.).
d. Lower the rear axle carrier and remove the two bolts.
e. Remove the shock absorber with the coil spring.
NOTE: If the vehicle has the electronic modulated suspension, remove the shock by performing the following.
f. Remove the clip and clamp and disconnect the absorber control actuator connector.
g. Using the 09817 - 33190 SST, loosen the nut in middle of the suspension support.
NOTE: Do not remove the nut.
INSTALLATION HINT: Using the 09817 - 33190, 09922 - 10010 SST, tighten the nut to 29 Nm (21 ft.lbs.).
NOTE: Use the 09922-10010 SST in direction shown in the illustration. Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 345 mm (13.58 inch).
h. Remove the three nuts of the suspension support.
NOTE: when installing the three nuts, tighten them to 39 Nm (29 ft.lbs.).
i. Lower the rear axle carrier and remove the two bolts.
j. Remove the shock absorber with the coil spring.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Install two nuts and a bolt to the bracket at the lower part of the shock absorber and secure it in a vise.
2. Using the 09729 - 22031 Special Service Tool (SST), compress the coil spring.
NOTE: Do not use an impact wrench, it will damage the SST.
3. Remove the suspension support nut.
4. Remove these parts from the shock absorber, the suspension support, the upper insulator, the coil spring, lower insulator, and the spring bumper.
ASSEMBLY
1. Install the lower insulator.
2. Install the spring bumper to the piston rod.
3. Install the coil spring by performing the following.
a. Using the 09727-30021 SST, compress the coil spring.
NOTE: Do not use an impact wrench, it will damage the SST.
b. Install the coil spring to the shock absorber.
NOTE: Fit the lower end of the coil spring into the gap of the spring lower seat.
4. Install the suspension support by performing the following.
a. Install the suspension support to the piston rod and temporarily tighten a new nut.
b. Rotate the suspension support and set it in the direction shown in the illustration.
c. Remove the 09727 - 30021 SST.
NOTE: After removing the SST, again check the direction of the suspension support.
INSTALLATION
To install reverse the removal procedure, noting the following:
- check the rear wheel alignment.
